What are some things you're hoping to do/not do once your LO is older and you become an inlaw? What kind of inlaw do you want to be?

Hubby and I get along great with our in laws. They're both laid back but still uberly loving. They make us meals when we ask and are always willing to help with no questions asked! But they aren't overbearing when they do have a small request. I'd definitely want to exude that type of personality when I become an in law.

My in-laws annoy me, so the opposite of them. I love them, but sheesh.

I just want them to feel welcomed whole-heartedly into our family. I want them to know that we consider them one of ours and give them room to build their own lives and make their own choices but to know that we are always there to support them. That's how DH and I feel about our respective set of in-laws, and I hope that we learn from them. I'm not saying that there are never things that bug us or that catch us off guard because I think that's just part of becoming incorporated into a whole new family; but honestly, for the most part, they just let us live our lives and are happy to be included anytime we want them to be.

Set boundaries!!! My in laws are not good with boundaries. I love them and they are very sweet. But please stop calling with extremely limited notice and TELLING me (rather than asking me) that you are coming to stay with us.

I want to be helpful and not demanding. I'll make an effort to talk to my son-in-law or daughter-in-law and not only my children. I want to be warm and welcoming. I'll probably offer to buy big purchases for my grand children. I'll offer my advice in a kind, loving way based on my experience when they come to me with a problem.

I want to love my LO's future partner as much as my mom loves DH. Seriously, sometimes I think she would pick him over me if we ever split! lol!

I want to be just like my in-laws. They stand back and let us make our own decisions - mistakes even - but are there with open arms, offering all the support we need!
