When you hear "Nora" do you assume it's a nickname for Eleanor?

    definitely stand alone!

I always assume stand alone until someone specifies what a name is short for. I love the spelling of Norah with the H!

My mothers name is Eleanor & I didn't even know that Nora(h) was a related nickname. I always think of Nora(h) as a stand alone name.

I never think of Eleanor when I hear Nora(h). Love the name!

I actually didn't even realize Nora was a nickname for Eleanor. I've only heard of Ellie.

Never associated them. We have a cousin named Nora, so maybe that's why.

I really like Norah on its own. I love Norah Jones and that is what I think of. Nora without the "h" does seem like a nickname to me.

Stand alone! I wouldn't think of Eleanor

Nope - totally stand alone! We just named our DD Nora so I'm biased

Never thought of that, I love the name Norah!

I think of Nora/ Norah as it's own standalone name. I would think Nori as a nn for Eleanor.

Definitely stand alone. I wouldn't associate Nora(h) with Eleanor at all.

I've actually never made that association. I think about Nora(h) as a stand alone name!

I think it's fine as a stand alone name. Someone I am friends with on Facebook just had a baby and gave her a name I had never heard before and the NN is Nora.

I think of it as a stand alone name....I love the name Nora but DH not so much...

@lamariniere: I'm curious what the name is, but I imagine you don't want to post it since it is unusual/uncommon. If you feel like sharing, wall me please!

I love the name Nora by itself or as a NN, but I don't automatically assume it is a NN.

I don't associate the two. I think it's a pretty stand alone name.

I definitely think of it as a stand-alone name - I would never make the connection to Eleanor.

This is my current favorite girl name! If we ever have a daughter, I think we'd go with Norah. Definitely a stand alone name in my book.

My DD4 is Nora and we have never been asked if it was a nickname!

My brother named one of his gals Eleanor and nobody has ever mentioned that they could/should call her Nora(h)!

    We love the name!

I never would have thought of it as a nick name. It's a beautiful name!

I feel like the Nora for Eleanor is a newish thing since both Nora and Eleanor happen to be sort of "in."

I personally think it makes more sense for Norah to be a standalone name. I have only known "just" Nora's... Never meet a Nora(h) who was really Eleanor.

    Either is acceptable though!
