If it is someone I barely know or am not totally comfortable with I usually decline. If I am at a friend or family member's house then I will offer to make it myself if I'm thirsty.

Usually I say no because I don't want to bother them, but I always ask for water when I'm pregnant (as long as they offer first).

I am always thirsty for water so I say yes!

Reading this makes it brutally obvious how foreign I've become! No one ever asks here! You sit and automatically given coffee. Even during meals, no one asks, you have a choice of what's already on the table and it's usually from tiny (individual) bottles you're supposed to share with everyone else.

If I want something I say yes. I don't think people offer if they don't mean it. But if they look busy I guess I might say "I'd love some water but I can grab it myself, which cabinet are glasses in?"

I usually decline. And if it's a closer friend or relative I usually help myself.

I'm such a bad host that I often remember to offer once my guests are leaving, oops! Though in my defense I'm used to most of my visitors helping themselves.

Sometimes. Most of my friends are close enough with me that I just grab my own water and vice versa

If I'm thirsty I'll say yes to some water. Coffee or tea, only if they are making it to have some themselves.

I really hate to think that guests would say no when I offer because they don't want to be a pain! I always want people to be comfortable in my house.

If I'm just stopping by, I decline. If I'm there for a real visit and plan to stay for a bit, I accept. I find it rude when people decline in the second scenario. Take some water or something!

I usually say yes.... My family and friends always stick the kettle on and offer a cup of tea. My FIL always offers pretty much his entire pantry to guests and even if people decline he'll bring in small plates and bowls of snacks. It's the Spanish way and my DH is the same, they can't help themselvesand really want to feed/water all guests.

Interesting question! I am basically never at someone's house that I am unfamiliar or uncomfortable with. Just something I grew up with, going to someone's house or being someone's guest is a big deal when you are on someone's turf so if I'm not comfortable with you I wouldn't be over. With that being Said if I'm already there it means I'll have no problem accepting whatever is offered. I feel like people wouldn't ask if it was an inconvenience for them, it's almost ruder to decline.

@Amelieisme: agree! My inlaws stop at Starbucks often before coming over. And not even for fancy lattes but they will get tea and drip! DH says that they do it because they call ahead and ask to pick us up something as a treat but it makes me feel like they don't trust me to be hospitable enough to offer.
