We've put ourselves on a budget this month, and the only thing I really miss is.... buying clothes for the kids! It is my vice.
What is the most difficult for you to cut back/out?

I just set up my budget in YNAB and for jan I went way over on our grocery budget. I know it's because I spend over $100 at Costco yesterday.

Clothes for the kids are definitely my downfall, especially if there is a sale and I try to justify buying by saying I'm buying on clearance for next year. Groceries are bad too. Cable TV is hard for me to let go, but I'm thinking about it!

Eating out for lunch. I don't have an office to store food in a fridge or warm up in a microwave. My packed lunch is pretty boring, but saves a bunch of money.

Definitely groceries. It so hard because eating is fundamental! I can see if we were doing something like going out to too many movies or buying too many clothes (we don't), but we can't simply skip dinner!!

In terms of sheer difficulty controlling it: Groceries. DH can't follow my instructions for using coupons and isn't good at buying the cheapest brand (he just grabs the first thing he sees), and has a ton of stuff he can't seem to part with like premade Jell-o pudding that's like $4 for 4 cups, or a random box of like 4 Weight Watchers brownies. Or he'll do all his toiletry shopping and pick up 3 bottles of body wash and 2 tubes of toothpaste, when I had coupons for all that stuff. On a side note, he also goes through body wash like water because he thinks he needs to use like a 1/4 of a bottle per shower.
I really appreciate him doing the shopping while I'm pregnant because I've been so tired and irritable, but I'm looking forward to taking that part over so we can get a little more control over our budget.
In terms of stuff I can't seem to stop spending on: Stuff for the baby. Makeup (not that I'm a product whore, but I use expensive brands and seem to run out all at once). Hair products (same as makeup).
Stuff we can't seem to part with: Cable TV.

Dining out. We do really well with breakfast and lunch--never dine out for those during the week, and only occasionally on the weekend, but we love going out for dinner!

Probably things for LO, even if I find a good deal it adds up because she probably didn't NEED that specific item.

Food. I'm good at getting deals on groceries, but we pick up food to eat at home or eat out too often.

It would be buying clothes for LO as well. I enjoy finding steals and like to plan ahead.

Groceries! I like making good food and DH is a meat and potatoes guy, so hearty (ie. often more pricy) meals are a must. I'm getting it under control though.

Eating out, hands down! The convenience and cravings are hard to resist.

@ladyfingers: I just have to say my husband has the same problem with body wash!! He refused to use a puff and would go through soooo much. I finally got him to switch to bar soap and it's saved a ton of money.

I would have to agree with the majority and say GROCERIES!! Organic groceries get pricey and it's hard to scale back.

@Mrs. Bee: Did you end up using YNAB?
The most difficult thing for us is groceries and eating out, hands down!

@Mrs. High Heels: i haven't yet! i don't get anything done on the weekends. just focusing on the kids and cleaning up after them leaves me exhausted!

I love eating breakfast out. I love getting out of the house and getting a good breakfast and fresh coffee. It just isn't the same making it at home...

@Mrs. Bee: Same as yours. I could not cut out buying clothes for the girls, so instead I just set a relatively low budget... Then I could skip a month and buy a bunch of stuff all at once or at least buy that one thing that I couldn't bear to miss out on.
Since we blew our clothes budget at Christmas time, I can't even open the Zulily page until February or all will be lost!

Stupid tiny less than $10 purchases....coffee, red box, snack, drink, etc. We both make these little purchases 1-2x a day and it really adds up!!!

Eating out. With little time for cooking, DH & I eat out a ton and order in. But then again, I hardly grocery shop (because we dont cook often) so we might be breaking even on that one.

eating out. Its so hard with DD being so needy and my husband and I working full time. I need to start doing all my cooking during the weekend but I just want to spend time with DD instead of food shopping and cooking

Food! Eating out and fancy groceries. I buy meat from surrounding farms, which is more expensive but worth it.

Groceries. ! Getting back to meal planning and sale stockpiling has helped. Eating out is easier now that we've moved to an area with fewer restaurants there's less temptation.

Before baby, it was definitely eating out. We ate out a ton, and often at pricy restaurants. now, I think the hardest thing to cut would be baby clothing! I seriously have a problem.

definitely eating out!! because it's not only stopping the indulgence but it adds work in shopping, prepping, cooking, and cleanup
