Just found out from one of my best friends/bm that they will most likely have a dest wedding in may 2013... This will most likely be six months after I give birth. Dh and I have always planned on joining them for their wedding as they are our best couple friends as well.
But I think it may be hard to actually go when the time comes!
How soon did you take ur first trip wo LO? If at all?

LO was 2.5 years old. I went to my grandmother's funeral. Travelled from NY to CA... Was gone only for a little over 48 hours. hated it!!

oh gosh, I know for sure I wouldn't take a vacation that far away from LO at only 6 mos old. DH and I plan to take a second honeymoon before having our next kid, but we plan to wait until LO is probably 2 years old.

Haven't yet, but looking back, at 6 months it could have been possible for a weekend, if I had my parents to care for him.
I'd still plan to go, worse case you just bring your LO. They're so resilient!

I was six weeks old the first time my mom left me with her mom for the night. I was probably one before she left me for more than one night. I think it's healthy for everyone to be able to separate yourself from your kid. The longer you wait to spend your first night away the harder it gets for both parents and baby. But I will say a full vacation (like more than a weekend) might be tough at 6 months, especially of you're breast feeding. Could you go to the wedding and bring the baby and a nanny along with you?

with her: 3 hr car ride at 2 weeks; 14hr car ride at 14 months; 3hr flight at 16 months
without her: she was 18 months old and we were gone for 24hr

First time we left him with someone for more than a few hours (grandma, my MIL): last July, he was 1.5 years old. We'll be leaving him again in a couple of weeks and again in a month (right before 2.5 years old). I'm freaking out a little but he's a pretty easygoing kid and he LOVES his grandma. Plus she's so good with kids, even if he cries or says he wants mommy or daddy I'm pretty confident she can distract him enough.

LO is almost 9months and we have yet to go anywhere without her - well, a couple of hours doesn't count.

Never. The longest I've been apart from her is a few hours, and I'm not planning on leaving for longer than that for a long time!

We left her over night at my parents starting when she was 4 months old. She was really comfortable there and my mom knew our routine and followed it. It went great and she has since then spent about one night a month there for various reasons. When she was 9 months old we went on a 4 day vacation without her (she stayed at my parents again) and it went great. We missed her so much but she had a great time and it was really good for our marriage to be able to focus just on each other with no distractions. I am really glad that we are able to have a night here or there to ourselves and I think it is good for our daughter too.

I went to a conference for like 5-6 days when he was 7 months old. Pumping was a PITA! But otherwise it was fine.
