For the first sponge baths before the umbilical cord fell off, where did you find it was easiest to bathe your newborn?
We have the 4moms Clean Water tub, but I feel like it's awfully large for a newborn and perhaps wouldn't be easiest for is either.
Suggestions welcome!

This is weird but we used the (clean unused) sitz bath from the hospital. We only needed an inch or two of water and it was small enough to do on the kitchen counter.

We used the bathroom sink for the first 3 weeks (his umbilical stump took forever to fall off!), then switched to one of those in tub bathtub things for real baths.
ETA: you don't use much water and you don't really set baby in it. Just unwrap body parts from the towel and rewrap as you clean them.

i put a towel down on a carpeted floor and gave him a few sponge baths.
he hated them. it just got chilly despite my attempts to keep him covered as much as possible during the process.

@anbanan15: That's a good suggestion. The bathroom is right next to her nursery too so we could quickly get her dressed and warmed up.
@edelweiss: We thought about trying that too but I feel like it would be rough on our backs! Poor babes get cold so easily too.

@Cara M. 17: for these reasons, LO did not get many baths as a newborn. i often took a baby wipe for cleanups instead of a full on sponge bath. shh don't tell anyone how gross we are!

R's cord fell off at day 6, so we did a bath in the regular tub on day 7. So we never did a sponge bath.

@Cara M. 17: We have the same bathtub as you, and I just bathed DS in it. I didn't fill it up with too much water though as to keep his umbilical cord dry as possible.

After her bb stump fell off and once she had neck control, I bathed with her in the tub. I was the easiest way I found to do it without killing my back.

We bathed LO in her baby tub on the kitchen table. It was easy on our backs and there was room for both DH & me.

We bathed DD in the kitchen sink with a Puj tub. I would have been hesitant to buy it but we borrowed my sister's...and it worked out great! When she was able to sit up on your own, we continued to use the kitchen sink w/o the Puj until she started standing up (like 7-8mo).

@Alivoo01: Did you put a towel underneath him or anything? I feel like she'd slip? We will have a towel over her too to keep her covered.

@Corduroy: Good idea, I didn't consider the kitchen table. Did you just use a bowl of water along with the tub?
@mrsmate: I like those tubs and the bloom bath but didn't want to spend more on a tub just for the first few weeks.
@autumnlove: I haven't heard of that tub!

We use the Summer Infant Deluxe Baby Bather (from Target). It's basically a cute little beach chair. Before the umbilical cord fell off, we sat the chair on the kitchen counter and just gave her a quick wipe down. After the cord fell off (day 10), we put the chair in the tub. It works great because it keeps the baby still in the chair!

WE used the infant sling with her baby bath. She loved bathtime from the beginning so I would put a warm wash cloth in the bottom so her back was nice and warm and she would just relax.

@Cara M. 17: oh we used it way longer than a few weeks. Maybe 5-6mo? That's when DD got really solid at sitting on her own.
