I guess I got lucky with consignment sale/Target clearance in the past. All the sudden DS (5, almost 6) needs new shoes and everything is $25-35 (or more!)
What is a normal price for you and where do you look after they grow out of toddler sizes?

I almost exclusively buy online (we live in a really rural area and there literally aren’t any retailers that sell kids shoes here
)
I normally pay $30ish for a pair of shoes BUT I have three boys so I know they will get well used.
Every now and then I find an Amazon Warehouse Open Box deal for way less

I’ve been having luck with sales and clearance at Carter’s. We’ve gotten a couple pairs of good shoes for under $10 recently.

I think thats a pretty normal price for quality shoes. I pay a little more, probably. I shop online. We get 1 pair Plae sneakers, 1 pair Livie and Luca dress shoes, rain boots (I like crocs) and then either sandals for summer (like keen style) or snow boots (bogs). I do typically only buy whole sizes so she wears things for quite a while. I keep an eye on kidizen, amazon, 6pm, and sierra trading post for deals. Now that I know the brand/style she likes its easier to shop sales and know what I'm looking for

I've had luck with Nordstrom Rack.
I bought cheapie Target shoes in August for back to school but both kids wore through them by mid-Nov.

Target for my almost 5 year old right now - think i paid about 20? They have a lot of sales if you watch for it.
My almost 8 year old’s school shoes (and some booties and dressy flats also) are from dsw. If you join their rewards program you get some nice deals. Not all of them have kid shoes in store but they do ship free for rewards members. But yeah, decent shoes are not cheap!

I pay $25-$35 for shoes unless I get lucky with Target clearance but I always buy Stride Rite from there and DS usually wears through 2 pairs of shoes in a few months.

I wish we had shoe stores but we’ve resorted to ordering from Zappos and stride rite. Prices are generally over $35 but we are just buying sneakers 2 pairs until one is worn out or outgrown. We buy flip flops from target.

I bargain hunt on Amazon or just got to Walmart. Walmart shoes aren't the best quality but we outgrow them before they fall apart. And I buy ahead. If I see a great deal then I buy multiple sizes.

I usually wait for sales on Carters/OshKosh. They have BOGO a few times a year. Sometimes Zulily has them on there too.

Thanks everyone. I do usually buy ahead, but this time I forgot! He's right on the edge of growing out of the toddler shoe brands that I know and can easily just found the next size. I think I'll have to haul him to a store and find a new brand to buy. Any favorite brands for little kids shoes? (Size 13, 1, 2.... Etc)

@Bluemasonjar: I usually but stride rite from Target but they don't seem to have sizes past 12 there. I'll have to check again.

@Silva: after our Target rain boots only made it through one kid, I bought Crocs rain boots.

Sneakers I am willing to pay a little more as they are really worn a lot and need to be good. I tend to just watch out for deals for Puma/New Balance/Nike, etc. Anything $35 and under I think I'd be okay with, esp for my oldest now that her feet aren't growing out of a size every 6 months. For my little I wouldn't spend that much.
I also know what seasonal shoes she needs so I try to stock up when there are sales too like maryjanes, rain/snow boots, jelly/water shoes, etc and I try not to spend over $20 for these categories.

I got cheap ones from amazon and from places like TJ Maxx or Ross. I figured that because they were going to go through them so fast, I didn't need to spend a lot of money on them.

Nordstrom Rack is absolutely our go-to place for reasonable, quality kids shoes.

Target has the surprize stride rite line through preschooler sizes. And some of their cat and jack shoes are great too.

@MrsSRS: that's what I usually buy but the Target line seems to end at size 12.

@crazydoglady: I like them too, but finding them in store/clearance for sizes past 12 is providing to be difficult. It might be time for me to switch to a new brand. I did check out their website to see if they make "little kid" sizes 13 and up. They do but the prices are more expensive than baby sizes.

@ilovepie: Sorry, I misread your LO's age. DS who is a size 2 just wears cat and jack now. Or whatever sneakers grandma buys. Here is what I did not expect: his fave sneakers come from Walmart and are great. I've decided that for this age less expensive is better than more durable because they're going destroy them no matter what.

@MrsSRS: I think Walmart is a good tip, my husband just bought my lo light up paw patrol tennis shoes for $9 and I actually really like how they feel and fit and I bought my 5yo gym shoes there because they need a dedicated pair for gym class 🙄 but yah def worth a look

Online- I mostly buy Stride Rite or Saucony since my kids have very wide feet.
