LensCrafters? Pearle Vision? Target?
Wondering if there's a difference in quality and pricing...where do you recommend?

We get our exams at LensCrafters then buy online.

At my optometrist's office. He's independent so no big box name. He accepts my insurance and comes highly recommended.

I do everything at the optometrist through insurance. It's just easier than having to go to separate places...

I get my exams at an optometrist, currently the one I see is at a PearleVision (it's just convenient to my house, no other real reason). The last pair of glasses I got was online at Warby Parker. I buy my contacts online (most recently through Vision Direct, but I usually run a quick search to find the cheapest prices on them).

i went to my eye dr last time (like a lenscrafters or pearlevision), mostly because it was convenient. a lot of people suggest getting the prescription and then ordering online or going to costco. i knew i would delay on something like that so i just got it all from one place.

I went to a local place for my eye exam. I took my prescription and ordered off framesdirect.com for my first pair (i wanted a very specific pair--Guess 2372 in rose) and my second back up pair, i ordered off Warby Parker. My insurance covers 2 pairs up to $90, so my good ones were only $125 and my WP's were only $10. I could be choosy because my current glasses weren't BAD, persay, I just knew they needed to be replaced somewhat soon because I'd worn them for 5 years and the screws were getting stripped.
I found the optometrist to be the most expensive but I also didn't love anything in store.
JCpenney has a sale a couple times a year and their prices were good when I checked, but they had sold out of the frame i wanted!

Go to optometrist for prescription. She's independent. I get contacts from 1-800 contacts and my last pair of glasses was from Warby Parker.

I get my eye exam done at an opthamologist's office, I've been going there since I was 12 years old. For a long time, I ordered my contacts through them, this was before online services such as 1800Contacts, which is the service my husband and I use now.
As for glasses, I get them done at a boutique place in NYC. Also been going there for a long time. I have had prescription sunglasses made at Costco, too.

I go to the optometrist and pick out my glasses with what they have. My insurance usually covers it, but if I need to buy a pair (without insurance) I'll go to Costco.

Some random optometrist who was the closest to my house when I checked my insurance's website for a provider. Insurance covers everything for my exams, and half my contacts, so I've never really cared about shopping around. I like her so I'll stay with her.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I was curious about ordering glasses online because how do you know if they'll look good on your face? Is there a program you use to match to your face shape or do you find something you like in stores and then order it online?

We go to the optometrist for the prescription, then head to Costco for the frames.
Our insurance pays up to $125 then we pay 20% if we go over that.
At the optometrist they wanted about $350 more than Costco plus we got an extra pair of sunglasses.

@serenity207: Warby Parker lets you borrow 5 frames at a time to try on for shape. Free shipping both ways. I think glasses are $100 including prescriptions. They are awesome.

I get my exam and order everything through my optometrist's office. I have AWFUL vision (like, I can't order glasses through Warby Parker because they don't make them in a high enough RX for me), so my glasses are super expensive (like 400-500, insurance helps a little). I have to get the thinnest, lightweight, etc. lenses otherwise they are like coke bottles (although they are still kinda like coke bottles!).
I can only tolerate one brand of contacts which are super expensive wherever you buy them. So, I figure may as well support my local optometrist and a local business.
Edited to add - my glasses are about a -13 diopter if anyone else has bad vision and understands. LOL

For the past 5 years or so I've been getting frames at See. Think I'm going to try warby Parker next

I love Warby Parker - I've also had success with Classic Specs and Lookmatic.

For eye appointments, I go to my ophthalmologist. I have a history of retinal tears, so I stick to professionals. For contacts, I use 1-800-Contacts. For glasses, I went to a local shop in my neighborhood.
