We don't have cable and our local paper is no good. I listen to NPR when I drive, but I don't have a daily commute anymore, so it's not consistent. I'd like to have a source or two that I can look at in the morning for highlights and actual news stories because it just doesn't seem right that i read about things that are trending on Facebook.

Google news feed and the NYT. Mostly actually news and not full of crap "news" (yahoo) or sensationalist videos of "news" (cnn).
It's probably just me, but I haaaaaaate watching videos of news online. If I wanted to watch the news, I'd turn on the tv. Probably just me being crotchety though.

@Espion: i HATE videos. hate. it usually takes 25 reposts of something or DH pulling something up on youtube for me to watch a video. i do not help make videos viral. ha.

I just check the main Google news page - I like that it gives you the choice of multiple articles on the same story, so you can read it from different perspectives.
Also, I second @mrsjyw: 's suggestion of the Skimm! It goes to my inbox and I read it with my coffee in the morning - it's a good balance of the most important news and odd, interest pieces.

As a British expat in the US, I like the Guardian's website, as it has different versions for the UK and the US:

I hate watching videos, too. I mainly just check cnn and I watch the news while I work out at the gym!

I subscribe to NY Times and the Globe & Mail (Canada). They send you top story headlines you can scan on your phone and click on if you want to read further.

I rely on Globe and Mail, National Post, CBC (all Canadian sites) BBC and occasionally NYT
