We've misplaced a library book and I've been looking for it on and off all day. I've run out of places in the house to look (and I've checked the car). Give me your best ideas please. The kids are 6 and 4 and the missing book is a paperback graphic novel. The kids have helped look but we're way past their attention span.

Inside a bag of some sort? I’m always grabbing random bags to take to church, on a car ride, to the doctor, etc, and throwing things in them. Any chance you have a similar bag in a closet?

Under the car seats? Under a couch, slipped on the side of a bed. That’s usually where ours are

Ours are always stuck between the bed and wall. Or stuck between the wall and the bookshelf. Or stuck between the bed and bed frame. I’ve even found one inside my kid’s duvet cover.

I was also going to suggest in a bag, in or under furniture, etc. Do they ever read in the bathroom?

Yes behind the wall and bookshelf. I offered $5 to whichever child found it and my 6 year old spent the better part of an hour removing everything from her bookshelf and putting it back and she found it.

Under the bed, wedged between the bed and the wall, on a shelf, in a bag, in the basement (that's where our last lost one was), in couch cushions, on top of a bookshelf. We try to keep them in one place but my kids love books so they never stay where they are supposed to stay.

you've probably thought of this already, but we have returned a book to the wrong library before by mistake (school library book returned to the public library). good luck!!

Is it possible you took it back already? If so, Go to the library and check on the shelf where the book should be. Every now and then we have one that gets missed when they check books in from the book drop.
Also, is it thin enough to have slipped between the pages of another book (either at home on your shelf, or in the pile of books you returned to the library?

@PinkElephant: I was thinking along the same lines. We didn't use to have a dedicated spot for library books, and they would often end up mixed in with our own books on the bookshelf.

@PinkElephant: It is possible we already took it back. I took back a bunch of books last week without diligently checking against my list. I missed a few around the house and dropped the remaining off this weekend checking against the list. I'll check the library this week and see if it happens to be there.

@Corduroy: You can also just watch your account online this week - if it’s a popular book, someone else may try to check it out quickly, and the library will realize what happened/it’ll just drop off your list of current loans. We went through a streak once where this happened allll the time - it used to bug me so much when I couldn’t find a book!

Ours are always hidden in our bookshelf! My husband says he can never tell which books are library books so if he’s cleaning up that’s where they end up.

Hope you find it. Ours end up behind the couch if they are thin or between the bed and wall. Keeping track of library books is a pain.

I found ours packed in a box of baby toys. Found it when I unpacked it for baby #2. So, if you’ve done any organizing in the last couple of weeks, check there.

I’ve found stuff in the middle of a bin of stuffed animals. Behind the couch. Under bathroom vanity. 🥴

If my DS got it it's in the garage, under the shelves, covered with tools and wood.

I'm still looking, I haven't made it to the library to chat with them yet. On the upside I'm making good progress on decluttering my house (again) in the process. Yay for pre-holiday cleaning.

@Corduroy: I am also looking for a lost item in my house - a watch a bought myself after graduating college. Ugh. But yes to decluttering the house! I am going through it top to bottom and its been a slow process because, well, toddlers. I hope you find that book! I lose my mind over misplaced things!!

I finally made it to the library to check the shelf. The whole series of graphic novels was gone (we had volume 8 only). I checked with the children's librarian and he confirmed I was looking in the right spot. He also checked the back. They may have sent the series to another branch. So still no answer to where the book is. I ended up paying $6.99 for the book so I could check out some more books. I still wonder if I'll end up finding it somewhere.

Finally found it! And it was.... behind the headboard. I thought I had checked every inch of the bed but I'll admit I didn't check there. We ended up finding it because DD misplaced a second book. After having a few conversations about where it could be she had an epiphany and asked me to help her move her bed. And she pulled out the first missing book. We also found the new missing book between the bed and the wall.

@Corduroy: ahh the satisfaction of finding a lost item! I haven’t lost any library books but I pride myself on staying on top of their puzzle pieces, parts to toys, etc... however I am currently missing a pig magnet fromthis Melissa and Doug toy and I will rejoice the day I find it..

@Corduroy: Ah I love this! Losing things drives me nuts. I finally found this missing puzzle piece and then my husband moved it and it drove me crazy. I finally found it the other day and was like YESSSSS. So trivial, but so satisfying lol.

I was going to say under the bed! That is where about 90% of our missing books go.
