@kentuckygirl: it's my grandmas name too!!! I think if you like it you should use it! It's neat to have cousins share something when it has such a sentimental meaning! My mom sister and I all have the same middle name spelled different ways and it never has bothered me!

If you are trying to avoid a popular name, I would avoid Evelyn, too. It is becoming very popular. I know of at least 5 girls under two with that name
ETA- There are multiple Evelyns in nanny LOs class. I have a very popular name and I hated going by my first name and last name.

Evelyn is such a beautiful name - I love it! I really want to use it if this next baby is a girl, but our LO is Emily and I think Emily and Evelyn is a bit of a mouthful.
I think Evelyn is getting more popular, but only to the extent that it's a name people are familiar with being used now. I sincerely doubt your DD will have multiple Evelyns in her classes at school. Now Ella on the other hand, I can think of five little girls I know under the age of three that are named that.....

@gotkimchi: We live in a very family-friendly neighborhood and I've only met one Evelyn on the playground (she was about LOs age). I think there's an Evelyn or too here, but I don't think Evelyn is becoming popular yet. It's one of those old school names, for us it's a family name from a great grandmother. But Ella on the other hand is super duper popular.

@gotkimchi: i actually don't know any other kids with the name evelyn and i live in a big city! i'm actually surprised that it's so high on the top names list. the only other evelyns i know are about my age or older. but one of the reasons we chose evelyn (our 2nd choice was emmalyn) was because people know the name (easy to spell and pronounce). i have a very common name and thats like the only thing i like about it.
