My hospital uses two kinds- the quintessential blue and pink one and another one with thinner stripes. I often have one draped over LO's car seat when I go out and it's funny and sweet how nostalgic people are when they see it if it's the same one their children came home in.
I really like the footprint and elephant patterns I've seen from other hospitals.

The first one - but not quite as bright. It was fairly faded, actually.
The hospital told us that we could take anything in the room. I was somewhat delirious and decided to take EVERYTHING (surprised I didn't come home with an IV pole). We now have like 5 of these blankets.

But I don't think you're supposed to take them home - hahahah. At least in every ob dept I've ever worked, we don't let them go home with parents.

We us the top stripes. I read an interesting article once about the classic hospital blankets and how they came to be in so many hospitals around the country.
@Ash: Our nurses sent home a blanket from each baby with my parents for our dog to sniff or acclimate to. He didn't care at all about the blankets but I was excited that we got to steal a couple!

We have the top one with ticker stripes. I melt every time I come across it in his drawer.
They also had Aden + Anais blankets branded for the hospital that they give out! So we have one of those with purple polka dots and the hospital name all over it. Very, very smart on both sides!

The first one is in his baby box along with the way too big sleeper he was in for going home. Our hospital also has baby beanies with the hospital's name on it in blue and pink. I have about 3-4 of those hats too.

Our hospital and the children's hospital we use have them all. The thick stripes, the footprints, the animals.
@Ash: I don't think you are supposed to take them either but one time they told us to take some if we didn't have enough blankets. I did take a brand new child's hospital own before though!

Something I learned - if you have family coming to stay, there's a nice hotel close by the hospital that has a partnership and they do like a 20% discount if you tell them when you book! It was very helpful for us

The first striped blanket you posted + ducks. We had an extended NICU stay at two different hospitals. I liked the ducks better. The blankets were larger and so it was easier to swaddle my long baby!

We we're allowed to take them home either, but my PP nurse both times told me to "accidentally drop" one into my bag.

Heh, I actually forgot to pack a blanket for E on the car ride home and the nurses gave us two and said to take them.
