I'm closer to my mom's too. I guess part of it was because a huge percentage of her family (our grandparents/uncles/aunts/cousins) lives on the same street. My parents moved there a few years ago but when I was growing up we only lived 20 minutes from all of them. My dad's family all lives 2-3 hours away and we didn't see them as often.

I'm closer to my grandma on my mom's side. But we're not very friendly with my aunt. She's not nice to my family, and I'm not sure how often we'll see her after my grandma isn't here anymore. We only see her now to keep my grandma happy.

@lilteacherbee: My parents and my aunts all live in the same city and they all go to the same church too!

I'm close to both sides of my family. I'm the glue on my dad's side!
I'm close to my dad's side because my mom's side is all in Korea. But, I stay in touch with my eemos and grandma via phone, email, and kakao!

Probably my mom's side since I see them more often, and my favorite aunt is on my mom's side too. hehe.

My Dad doesn't have any family (his Mom and sister have both passed away) so, it's Mom's family. We have always been closer with her family, though. A big irish family.

Mom's side here too. It's sad because I feel like I barely know my cousins on Dad's side.

my dads side. I am real close with my aunts and grandparents.
my moms side is so broken with substance abuse, criminal histories/activities, divorce, lies, hate, etc. It's not a healthy family. And after my grandma died, everyone fell apart. My mom hasn't even seen her sister in years.

When I was growing up it was my dad's side of the family but after my grandma passed away, we stopped seeing my aunts, uncles, and cousins unless it was a big life event like a wedding.
We're much closer to my in-laws than we are to my side of the family.

I've was always closer to my dad's side of the family when I was a child. I think it was probably because they were more into my parents' business lol...they had no problem coming over to our house at any time and taking me home with them to stay for a weekend (grandma and aunt especially). My mom's family is just more reserved and I feel that my grandma (mom's mom) was hurt when I was young that she didn't get to see me more/wasn't the "favorite" grandma.
Now that I'm an adult I spend a lot more quality time with my mom's family than I did as a child, and I'm so glad. I'm still close with my dad's family though so at this point I'd call it even.

Before getting engaged, I was definitely close to his family. Now, I'm closer with my family now. The drama from the wedding really threw a wrench in our family's relationship.
