I like having a full sized bed in my son's room, it's nice to be able to sit there together and read before bed (which we don't do, lol) or we have an extra space for guests.

Eventually, we might do an underbed trundle for sleepovers.

If the goal is to never redecorate again, I'd do a full bed. I guess he's have some sleepovers as a child, but probably not many and probably not at all as a teen. I don't really understand having an unused bed around just taking up space and collecting junk.

E is 4 and got a full bed in his big boy room because he got the guest bed when we turned the guest room into little sister's nursery. He loves it and I find him sprawled across it diagonally most nights.

We did a full in DS1's room and he loves it. DS2 is in a twin and we will be getting him a full soon.

I would do two twins. I don't know your entire situation but two twins would be great for sharing, guests, etc.

I'm not sure what we'll do. Right now we might do twin with trundle, otherwise two twins (2 girls).

I'd just do a full. Can always just drag in an air mattress for sleep overs but I feel like always having 2 twin beds in a room without needing both just takes up space...

We have a queen and twin laying around and just moved DS1 to a twin floor bed that's in a Privacy Pop tent as his transition bed. I think a queen or full would be too big for him from a crib - I feel like he'd feel scared. The tent plus fuzzy blankets and all his stuffed animals make a cozy little den and he's transitioned really well. He loves our big Cal King bed but it's because he equates it with snuggle time with us before bed. If he had a big bed I can see him trying to use that as an excuse to get us to lay with him.

I don't think it's possible to "never decorate" again. You will have to eventually when they have their own tastes and interests or move. You can reassess then, but I would just do a smaller bed for now. We like the floor bed option because we don't have to worry about him falling out of bed.

I don't see a problem with having a twin bed until you go to college? Can someone explain the hate?

I had the same question when we just moved DS1 out of his toddler bed and we ended up going with a full as we already had a bed frame and thought we could use part of his crib as the headboard (we couldn't ). I do like the full as it's easier to lay with him and read books but it's also way too easy for him to ask for us to lay with him and accidentally fall asleep.

DS2 already has a twin bed in his room with a mattress underneath that he can use for sleepovers when he's old enough. This bed matched his furniture more than his brother's or we would have had him use it.

I'm with @Adira and @Greentea: what is the second twin for?

We just got DS out of his crib and put him in a twin. Honestly, I slept in a twin until I got married. I had a twin at home and all my college dorms/apts had twins.

If you plan on using it as a guest room occasionally, I'd recommend looking into a trundle bed or an air mattress.

You can always upgrade if the size doesn't work, but no one ever wants to downgrade. I vote twin.

I had a twin in my bedroom at home through college. My brother had a full the whole time, but only because his room doubled as the guest room.

We chose a twin for DS so he would have more space in his room, which isn't large.

College dorms usually have twin beds. It would not be a big deal for him to have a twin throughout HS.

That being said since you have the space I'd go with a Full. Unless there is permanent room sharing I think a second bed is unnecessary and prone to becoming a junk collecting surface.

@LBee: I like the flexibility of two twins. Plus you can get one of those connector thingies if you want to turn it into a King for guests.
