I'm not positive if I'm allergic to white gold or not, but I ended up replacing my white gold engagement ring band for platinum and I definitely think it has helped. White gold is an alloy mix and can contain nickel, which I AM allergic to, so I think that was my problem. Do you have any other metal allergies?

I have an allergy to gold, I can't wear earrings that have any gold at all in them or my earring holes will basically scab. It's worse with 18K (white or yellow, doesn't matter) but I really only can wear surgical stainless steel. It doesn't affect any of my other jewlery wearing, my rings are white gold and there's no reaction at all on my fingers.

@rachiecakes: I developed a nickel allergy later, so perhaps you've developed an allergy to something. I've switched my bands to platinum and avoid nickel and now I'm good (although I have an eternity band, so I do still need to clean it regularly or it'll bother me).

@rachiecakes: Right around 4-5 years was when my ring started to bother me too.

@rachiecakes: What kind of band is it? You could try cleaning it first, but it sounds like it could be an allergy, like what I had.

@rachiecakes: my skin did this! I took a 3 month break from my wedding/e-ring and it didn't go away (even with cleaning it). We replaced it with platinum.
