If you have purchased an airline seat for them, do you still need their birth certificate? The last time we flew with her was when she was a lap child.

I have talked to a few friends and no one has been asked for a birth certificate, with or without their own seat. But I would bring a copy just in case because I'm paranoid.

Nope. We flew in August, and didn't need it. I did bring it, but never took it out of my wallet.

Domestically, they don't ask.
I always have passports though, because I am one of those worried people, lol.

No. The airline only needs age verification if you are bringing them as a lap infant and TSA doesn't require ID until 18.

Just flew to Florida last week from Atlanta. Both the flight there and back, they checked her passport. The passport pic is like when she's 8 months old and she's now turning 3. Looks nothing like her

I have always brought it but they have never asked. We have done 3 round trips where she had her own seat.
Although at one security check point the tsa guy told me I should have a photo id for her? But no one else said that and I have no idea what that would be!

Agree with with everyone, and if you are TSA precheck members your LO doesn't have to be (they don't do that for kids)

@MamaCate: oh I just realized I have an ID card for her!

Since we live in such a small country, all of our flights are international, so we always take our passports. We take them when flying domestically in the U.S. too.

No, we didn't need anything for them, which is actually a little scary! We didn't fly internationally though.

We flew last week. Southwest asked for DS's birth certificate (3 month old lap infant) both ways. I had my daughter's birth certificate (2.5 yo, ticketed passenger) but was not asked to show it.

Technically yes you are supposed to have it (and the airline told me the hospital one was ok.) But I think they really only ask for it if they are trying to make sure your lo is ok to be a lap baby (so like on the border of two?) I flew in August and wasn't asked, but dd had her own seat. Id say bring t just in case though.

I brought the birth certificate but nobody asked. I flew American, US Air and Hawaiian.

Just to follow up on this - we were not asked at all about ID for our daughter. I guess once they have their own seat, they are all set.

I know most of you are saying you don't need it, but our airline website says you do, so I want to be prepared. Is a copy ok or do they need the original? I don't love the idea of bringing his original birth certificate with us. I emailed the company but haven't heard back yet (and the wait time when I called at 8pm last night was 46 minutes!).

@littlebug: we took a copy with us anyways. I think our copy is an original. When she was born, I went to the records office and got 3 originals printed.
