I once googled a friend and it said he had a net worth of $150 mil! I was so shocked as he is so down to earth and not flashy. He even flies coach. Dude, if I was that rich, I would at least fly first class (if not private)!
ETA - his house looks like Downton Abbey so he does have a bit of flash!

Most of my friends are teachers or they are just out of college, so no one is rich yet. I think my friend's boyfriend WILL be rich though. He's an elementary school PE teacher who is also an author. At 24, he's published 2 novels already.

Most of my friends are in our range - students or aid workers, so we're all QUITE poor! 
I do have a doctor specialist friend though, he probably makes twelve times what anyone else in my group makes. Ha!

I don't have any rich friends either I don't think. I have friends that are able to do more, take more vacations, clothes shop a lot, etc. but that's just because they don't have kids to spend their money on.

None of my friends are rich on their own, but I grew up in a town where the median home price is over $1M, so lots of my friends' families were millionaires (not mine - not even close!)

All my friends from high school are either in university still or living in some dumpy trailer somewhere (I went to school in a really bad area). All my husband's friends from high school still do drugs and live with their parents.
My only "normal" friends are from church, and they all have "normal" jobs like teachers, pastors, social workers, retail managers, etc.
We do have a friend that got $2 million from a car accident, but I don't think that counts...

I really don't have any rich friends. I have friends whose parents are very rich, so they get a lot of stuff, but they aren't rich. Most are still in college though, or just finishing up and just starting in the "real jobs"

My son goes to private school, so lots of his friends are VERY well off. The family of a boy in my sons class owns an egg manuf. company.. His best friends parents sold their business in LA, they live in a 7000 sq ft home, dress very well, have fancy things, drive a nice car.....They work but they're very closed mouth about their professions, her husband dabbles in real estate and they have rentals in CA. They're rich, but I don't know how much! They're the nicest people I know!!
My parents have friends as well as us that are self made millionaires, he's a dentist but made his money off real estate. Again very humble and loving friends. My husband and I were to be married at their home, it's gorgeous and very flashy. They give a lot away though.
I'd do anything to be in that position, but they have 20 years on us. Income wise we make more than friends in our age range.

I know two billionaire entrepreneurs through business... they are pretty quirky. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but then I realized that when you're worth that much, then maybe people indulge your idiosyncrasies more.

I dont know that i have any "rich friends"... Husband does, though (he went to college at SMU and there seems to be a lot of money floating around) but i couldnt even guess as to their net worth, because they arent really flashy.
I will say that most of my friends are living comfortably, which at our age (28) i think is pretty awesome!

@mrbee: definitely! They are not my friends but the millionaires and billionaires at work are idiosyncratic all right! They also have the resources to do off the wall things all the time.

That wasn't a huge concern of mine at the time I placed him there, but I have noticed it through parents. Not even half the kids parents are "rich", and it usually comes up when kids are taking vacations to Hawaii, Florida, and Disneyland, or getting expensive gifts (we live in the country so they all have their quads). It isn't really bad though.

Just asked the DH and he says we do have a friend who we think is a millionaire. Our friend is a financial planner for big companies. He has a multi million dollar home and he just put in a new pool with flame shooters.

@StbHisMrs: oh ok, good to know! i just don't want the LO to feel bad or to feel really "poor" -- and hate on her parents or something! But I guess that is just something I will have to teach her so that she will not be upset because we are going to be providing her with a perfectly nice life even if we are not super rich.

I'd say most of the people I know are middle class? most of the people I know who are more "upper middle class" are older, more established in their jobs etc.
We live in a place where the median income was $57,457 and the average home price was $216,388 in 2009... so not too bad!

We know a few very rich people... We live in Boston so there are a lot of very successful people here. We also have a lot of friends who are doctors. They're probably all in a lot of medical school debt but will be raking it in quite soon.
