I would have whoever has the most experience doing them. But, i have known way too many people have to get repeats done so i would go with a urologist since they end up having to fix them. I'd also consider a mohel.

First time my OB did it. Second time (different hospital, different OB) the pediatrician did it.

@catomd00: My parents are Jewish, but when she was going to have my brother she asked the pediatrician about it. He recommended a moyle and had used one for his own sons!

We wound up having a girl. But if she had been a girl the mohel we wound have used is also a urologist.

My OB did my oldest son's and a resident on his peds rotation did the baby's. The attending and nurses said the baby's was one of the cleanest they'd ever seen

Family physicians do them too! I did them all the time before I moved and changed jobs. We had a clinic once a week specifically for circs. In med school my mentor (also family doc) did them for the Jewish community. That being said, if we ever have a boy he is definitely not getting circumcised.

This is really interesting to me! Our OBs don't do circs, peds do in their practice (most won't do it at the hospital but it has to be done by day 10.)

We were told that the OB would do it, since OBs are surgeons and pediatricians aren't necessarily. My OB said we could being him in in about 2 weeks after nursing was established for her to do it. But we decided not to, so it was a moot point!

The OB on call did our son's before we were discharged, but we had friends who wanted to wait and had it done later by a urologist - they said the urologist was actually probably less experienced doing them (at least on infants) so that's just something to consider, if you choose to wait and see a urologist.

I answered other because we hired a mohel to perform our sons circumcision and we aren't Jewish. He was fantastic and I loved that that is all he does. If we have another son we will be hiring him again.

A pediatrician in town runs a circ clinic, so he did it.

The OB on duty did it on our second day at the hospital. It was one of the 2 I wanted, because she used the plastibell method!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: we had our ped do it in the office when LO was about a week old. We could have had it done in the hospital by the neonatal docs but we trusted our ped and had a cheaper co pay for in office vs in the hospital. It might be worth talking to your insurance company to consider those factors too. Our ped has been in practice for 30 years and is very experienced and we had a relationship with him from older LO.

Also, i watched my son's city in the office and it was fascinating! If you are not squeamish it might be worth considering!

Our OB wasn't on call when they gave us okay to perform the circumcision (he was in the NICU due to dust spells) so another OB from our practice did it. According to the pedi, she did a might fine job.
