We put up picture shelves for the children books in Olive's bedroom, and now she can reach all of them herself. So every night, she picks the books she wants and hands me a stack. Boy is she opinionated about what she reads! It's a new thing so I'm still adjusting... but I love that she's so into it these days.

M has a stack of books next to the recliner and she picks the books and the order in which we read them.

I pick what books we buy and I exercise discretion at the library, so I have control over the possible selections, but I usually let him pick at least one book to hear at bedtime.

DS has started choosing - it sometimes makes reading before bed take a long time! He'll sometimes pick a book and change his mind once we start. I don't think he's actively stalling (he's only 16 months), I think he just doesn't know what he wants sometimes.

They always have chosen. Lorelei has always been much pickier about her books than Ellie ever was, so she has been "choosing" since she was about 9/10 months. I would show her books and she would push them away. 
Or sometimes not push them, and then I would read that one.

Right now me. When I hold A up to her bookshelf to pick a book she always picks her piggy bank.
