I could really use some advice from more experienced Bees. We are first time parents, and kind of fumbling our way through some of these things.

I'm currently on maternity leave. My husband had taken about six weeks off with me. He's getting ready to go back to work next week. He works a very busy fast paced job with no set schedule. His shifts can range anywhere from 4-18 hour days depending on what's booked at his job.

My question is: how did you divide caring for a newborn? I'm worried I will be home with the baby all day and up with him all night, and never be able to get a few hours of sleep uninterrupted, or a break. But for my husband, I don't want him to work a long, busy shift then come home and be up with the baby all night. He needs to be able to rest too, especially when he has back to back long shifts. Our newborn wakes every two hours (sometimes less) and is a very fussy, high maintenance baby. How do we manage this so we both retain our sanity? Thanks for your input!
