We are pretty even in that realm. We try to alternate it and if need be ask our ILs.

This year I will be taking off for all of her sick time (knock on wood, not any yet since she started day care). DH used up all his time staying home after her birth, while I still have a week or so left. Next year we will be splitting it!

It's pretty even. For short stuff like Dr's appointments I take off more because my work is much closer to daycare so it's easier for me. When she's sick and has to stay home he handles that because he can work from home and I can't.

Me. My work is much more flexible/understanding than his, so it makes sense for us. But I admit to having a "you need to stay home once in a while" meltdown a few weeks ago when I was exhausted from watching a sick LO all day and then staying up late to get my work done.

DH and I just had a talk about this. It used to be me all the time because DH is a teacher and I have a desk job + I had 60 sick days, plenty of vacation time, and could work from home on occasion. But this has to change with my new job--I only have 6 sick days and I don't want to take them in the first 3 months of the job since that is a probationary period.
DH will have to take time off. I've asked my mom & sister if they would watch her if we really need them.

Me. Before we weaned, it was me no matter what. Part of it depends on meetings, etc. For me, it's easier to take off than DH. I've been hoarding my PTO in general since LO's first year in daycare for him when it's needed.

Hubs is pretty busy at work for a while, so lately I've been the one doing it, but hopefully it'll all even out in the future since he has more vacation time than I do.

DH would, because his work is more understanding/flexible. mine would give me attitude..

That would be me. Unless it's pre-scheduled (like a doctor's visit or what have you). He does those. But if it's an unexpected daycare/preschool pick up, I'm the one that works closest to school.

IN the beginning DH because I had no leave available for work, now we split it every other time.

My husband. His schedule is much more flexible and he has more time off than I do. Plus I'm a classroom teacher and its a bear to take off time. The sub and making plans - gah I hate it!

Last year, it seemed I was always sick when she was so, I did. Now he takes more time so I can save my PTO.

It'll be me because DH runs our shop. Plus, my work is more understanding/flexible.

Me. I have PTO and DH doesn't. Plus, he doesn't really deal well with her when she doesn't feel good. It makes him sad.

We're pretty even. We have both been with our companies for 10+ years, so we've both accumulated some good time off. We'll coordinate with who has meetings when.

We have discussed this and DH will likely be the chosen one. I plan to use as much as my PTO to extend maternity leave.

DH. i'm in the hole for leave because of maternity leave, so i don't have any time to take off unless it's without pay. if i did have leave though, it would probably be me until i threw a fit and we tried to divide it more equally.
