I never had a set plan beyond rear-facing u til age 2, but I think we're going to make it to 4! DH turned him around ages ago though. Any one else still extended rear-facing? My 3.5 year old is a peanut though...only 25lbs. Prob 37 inches.

R is still rear facing, but only 16m. I'll keep him that way until 2.
T we switched around 21 months.

LO is 2 1/2 and still rear facing she's 30lbs 35" so we're thinking after her 3rd birthday we might need to turn her around

Yesterday a kid at preschool called him a baby when she saw it. But I think he likes the different view!

I voted based on my kids current ages. They are both still rear-facing at 16m and 3 years.

DD1 will be 3 in July and is still rear facing. I have no plans to turn her around until she's 4. However, if we have a third, and I have to put one kid to the back of the van, then I would probably turn her forward in the back. ( But at the earliest, she would be 3.5 then.) DD2 is 15 months so has a long time to go before I think of turning her around.

DD will be 3 in July, and still rear facing. She's tall for her age (37 inches) but still has another three inches of height growth before she needs to be turned in her particular seat, so that's the plan of action. DD has FF'd once in a friend's car and it scared the crap out of her. I knew I wanted to RF until 2, but now we're just gunna do it until she sizes out.

DD is 3 in August and we are still rear facing. I hope to do it until 4 but I have to check my Britax requirements again. She's still under 30 lbs though.

We are - like you, I didn't go into parenting with any extended RF plans....but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. LO is small though (not sure on height but only about 28lbs soaking yet at nearly 4) so that has certainly helped.

My kids are giants! We turned dd at 2.5 because it was impossible for me to get her into our suv rear facing 8 months pregnant.
My son is just 1, so he will resurface until it breaks my back like dd :D.
They are both in the 90th percentile for heigh so we have seats that allow erf to accommodate their height, but it seems like at some point it just becomes a huge task getting them in there

DD was 3 in December and we're still RF. She'll be staying that way for a while yet...

Currently rear-facing at 16m, hope to do it for as long as we can!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
dd is still rf at 2 and just over 24lbs/33.5 inches. But we rarely drive, not sure if she'd be fussier about it if we were in the car more regularly

I don't have any set plans, but I would like to keep him rear facing as long as possible. He needs a new car seat though to make that happen because he is so scrunched. He is currently 20 months, 28 lbs and 35 inches.

We turned our son a month ago, at 26 months, because #2 was imminent and my legs are too long to have a rear facing seat behind me when I'm driving. It makes me a bit nervous (I keep thinking in an accident how his head would snap forward) but on the other hand he no longer cries and begs me to sit in the backseat with him.

My little is 2 years 10 months and still rear facing. I plan to rear face until he outgrows the rear facing limits of his carseat, which for him will be by weight at 40 pounds. He has been 32.4 pounds for the last 12 months though, so who knows when that will be!

I voted 2-3, but my guy turns 3 in 1.5 months! He's huge too, about 38", but he's perfectly ok RF, so why rock the boat!
pomegranate / 3393 posts
@Dr. Pepper: wow our kids are exactly the same age! And my guy is very tall, but just like yours has been hovering at about 32-33 pounds for a very long time!

I am but mine just turned 2. I will go as long as possible I guess. Although sometimes I wonder if she'd be happier front facing so she could see me. She is very whiny if we are in the car longer than 15min so someone always has to sit in back with her but I don't think that will work well once #2 is here (she will be 2.5). She is tall- 37" and 30lbs currently but that doesn't seem to be an issue (she isn't scrunched up).

Still rear facing at almost 3.5! She's on the small end for her age but not a peanut. She's definitely got time before she reaches our seat's rf limits. She has honestly never asked to turn around. One time she noted her friend's seat was different but I just said all cars are different etc. She's definitely comfy in there. I love that she's happy rf, but if it became a problem id probably switch her rather than fight it at her age.

We just turned LO around this past weekend. She's 2 years 8 months.

Currently rearfacing at 19 months, but she's only 23 lbs so I imagine we will stay this way for a good while

DD is rear-facing at 12 months, and we will keep her that way until she reaches the weight limit (40 lbs). That should be quite a while.

39 month old (hahaha) still rearfacing at 34lbs 39"
15 month old rearfacing at 22lbs 31"
3 month old rearfacing at 16.5 lbs 27"
Not going to lie, I'm looking forward to turning someone around.

she's 13 months (and only 16 pounds) and yes still rear facing, she's so petite she will probably be rear facing for awhile! Our 3 1/2 year old has been turned around since 2, she was unbuckling herself and a MacGyver so i wanted to see her in the mirror.

LO1 we turned at 4 and a couple months, when he hit the RF limit on his car seat.
LO2 is 3 and still RF. He will hit the limit on his seat soon but I might be getting him a new seat anyway. Will try to get as close to 4 as possible.
I didn't have strong opinions on this issue, but as the kids got older it made sense to just leave them as they were until there was a reason to switch, especially if it's a little safer.

LO1 was RF until 3.5, and LO2 is still RF at 2.5. I won't consider turning him until 3 at the absolute earliest, but will keep him that way longer if there are no issues.

E rear faced until he hit the weight limit on his seat around 3.5 yeasts old. He never complained. I don't see anyone extended rear facing at daycare pickup though.

LO is 2.5 and still rear facing. I can't see us turning her anytime soon.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
Rear facing at 2 (35" & 30 lbs). We won't turn him until he outgrows his seat. I've been in an accident with him in the car and he came through with no issues even though the other car hit his door. I attribute that to the fact that he was rear facing.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
We just turned her, about a month or so shy of 3. I was seriously going to injure my pregnant self putting her in and out of the rear facing seat in our little sedan. She can climb in and out by herself now.
My goal was 3, we almost made it!

DS is still rf at 2. He's a tall 36 inches, but he doesn't know any different. We have no plans on turning him around.... although I just realized we have to figure out where the bucket seat is going for #2 in the coming weeks... hopefully they will both fit and DH and I can drive comfortably!
apricot / 477 posts
LO is rear facing at 15months. She's only 17lbs so we had no plans to turn her. I'm due with LO2 in October so if we can't puzzle the car seats both rear facing she will have to turn.

My 3 yr old is still rear facing! Her legs are super long but she doesn't seem to mind!
My 8 month old obviously is still rear facing as well.
kiwi / 728 posts
We are still rear facing at almost 2 years old (2 weeks away!). She can sometimes be a bit fussy in the car seat but I'm not sure turning her would help so we plan to keep her rear facing for now.
nectarine / 2641 posts
Still rear facing at 3.5. I don't think we would need (based on height/weight) to flip at 4, but we probably will.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
LO1 is still RF at 2.5. I'd like to keep him there until 3. He's currently 33lbs. LO2 is 8 months and is, of course, still RF as well.
