Umm.. because I want to have a family? What other reason is there? I don't have a farm that I need workers for or anything..

It's an interesting question but I would be crazy annoyed if someone asked like that...it sounds like they have an agenda and are waiting for you to have an answer that 'isn't good enough.' I just always knew I wanted a family and my husband did too. I knew it was in my life path to be a mother and for my husband to be a father.

I've asked myself this question a million times, but would be completely offended if someone else asked it. I didn't always know i wanted kids, but seeing how much my husband did and how amazing he is with kids was what swayed me at first. and thinking about the effect a child would have on us and our families, how much joy it would bring was influential as well. it took a while for me to get to the point where i could really say that i wanted kids for ME though, as opposed to my husband/family. But at some point i realized all my reasons for not wanting to have kids didn't seem persuasive anymore, and i started to imagine what it would be like and get really excited about what life could hold. that and the free child labor OBVIOUSLY

I didn't always know I wanted kids, but at the same time, I could never picture my future life without having kids. That second sentiment finally convinced me to jump on the baby bandwagon and have one of my own. I'm glad I did!

I have to say while the questioners may have been smug, I think this is a fair question among close friends. I've often thought about this -- I'm clear on why I want kids now, but I wasn't always. And I have been curious enough to ask my DH and my friends why or why not they want to have kids. I think it's a great conversation to have. I feel like these kind of discussions sometimes dissolve into us vs. them when they really should just be -- "we have different ideas, let's talk about why we think the way we do."

Very selfishly I want to be a mom AND I want something tangibke and unique to only DH and myself.

I wanted to create a family with my husband. To me, it didn't matter how our children came to be (biological, adoption, fostering), we just want to care and nurture children together, as a couple.

Okay, what I was trying to type earlier.

To be 100% perfectly completely honest I only got pregnant because DH wanted a child. I had no desire for one whatsoever, at that time and perhaps at all. I hate to say DH pressured me, but strongly influenced my decision. I had wanted to finish school and have a career.

Now that I have J, I obviously adore him and love him with everything I am. And since I made it past the hardest hurdle of just one, I will have 1-2 more (my own decision). I think it was too scary thinking of having a little human to be solely responsible for. So many difficult decisions, so much potential hurt, responsibility and accountability. I wanted to keep my freedom and money quite honestly.

Although I'm happy with my son and love him to bits... I do still think and dream about what I gave up to have a family. It's bittersweet, really.

I've dreamed of being a mom my whole life. I feel like its something I'm meant to do.

I'm excited to see DH become a father and completing our family. It's been enjoyable just me, DH, and our dog...but I'm looking forward to playing with the kids in the yard, sending them off to school, raising them...etc.
For me personally, that's what I want in my family. I don't see a problem with people not wanting kids, but that's not my plan!

I didn't always have a strong urge to have children, but once i settled down with DH there was no question about it. I knew he would be a great dad. We are both close with our families and were so excited to start our own.
