Does anyone know why you aren't supposed to use the latch system from the outboard seats for a car seat installed in the middle seat? My Volvo owners manual says you can't "borrow" so we have todo a seatbelt install in the middle. We get a good fit but it's annoying if we have to move the seat.

its because the LATCH anchors are too far apart if you borrow. When they are too far apart, it doesnt properly or adequately anchor the car seat and they can more easily break. Basically it causes teh car seat to not protect to its fullest extent. Most cars only have side LATCH systems. If it had a middle LATCH, there would be two additional anchors.

@LivsMama is right - when DS was born I had an '08 Yaris and now I have a '12 Prius and both are side LATCH only. DH has a '08 Yaris but the sedan version and it has a center LATCH.
