We had children because we wanted to share or.life and love with them!

We wanted to have a big family. We thought growing old alone would feel lonely....

Tough to answer, as there was a time when I didn't think I wanted children, or maybe only one (I am currently expecting #2). I am not someone who always wanted children or who wanted a huge family.

I think the honest answer is that my mom died when I was in my late 20s and it left a hole in my heart and an empty spot in my family right around the time that DH and I got married and when we were having discussions about starting a family anyway. We waited a few years to be certain but it just felt right. DD has certainly filled the hole in my heart and then some. The decision to have #2 was actually a little harder but I just didn't feel like our family was complete. I can already tell that when LO2 arrives, I will feel done.

Because I've always wanted to. Because they're not just my kids, they're the descendants of my grandparents and great grandparents, and I want their legacy to live on. Because I loved them before they existed in any way. Because I thought I had so much to give them (maybe I was wrong there...) Because DH felt the same way.

For a while I thought I shouldn't, because my immediate family is pretty messed up and the idea of my kids inheriting their genes or attitudes... nope. That was a tough thing to come to terms with, but I was ready to never have kids if that's what it took to not bring them into a bad family. Thankfully DH is as different from my family as they get... hopefully that will help the kids grow up happier than I did.

I did NOT know I always wanted kids. In fact I thought I most certainly did not want kids until about 3 years ago. So, we decided to have one, and now DS is 10 months old and the "compromise" is perfect for us - two very busy fulltime working parents with four dogs hahaha.

I'll be honest...when we were initially trying for our first it was mostly because it was the next logical step. We were together a long time and in our 30s. I don't think I really had this "my life will be incomplete" feeling, or ar least I don't remember it. But it was nice to think about seeing my husband in a different role.

As we had losses and ended up doing IVF there was a bit more of a longing and desire VS natural progression.

Of course after becoming a parent you can name countless reasons why it's wonderful, but I didn't know any of those reasons before I had him so I can't say THOSE were the reasons.
