Our TV stand was horrible... like the cheapest one you can get at Walmart and falling apart. But I could never bring myself to spend HUNDREDS of dollars on such a simple piece of furniture.
Then it popped up on my Pinterest feed... TURN A DRESSER INTO A TV STAND! So I found a cheap dresser on Craigslist, got some paint and bins from Marshall's... and ta-da!
Couldn't be happier!!

@bluestriped bee: got the dresser for $30. Spent about $30 on paint but I shouldn't have gotten a full gallon, a quart would have been enough (so I have TONS left over), and $15 on the bins.

@bluestriped bee: and I was just a supervisor, lol, DH got it alldone (sanding, placing the shelves, and painting) in one afternoon. But we have power tools.

I wish there was useful stuff on the "free" section of Craigslist near me. All they have is puppies, kittens, and moving boxes, lol.

@LuLu Mom: we're allowed to paint our walls but we would have to prime them before we leave which is pretty much every three years (we live on a Navy base, DH gets transferred basically every three years) so I prefer to have bold/colorful furniture so we don't haveto touch the walls.

I hate TV stands in general (so expensive! the backs are open so you can see all the cords! no doors in front to prevent babies from pushing buttons!) so we created a custom one at Ikea with a low cabinet. Then Wagon Sr. cut big holes in the back (that piece is just fancy cardboard!) to thread the wires through. he had to cut more than we originally hoped for because the electronics were getting too hot inside the closed cabinet, but it's still so much better than a completely open back. Plus the entire thing has frosted glass doors in front that hide all the electronics and wiring, and drawers under those doors for DVDs, video games, batteries, etc. I love it!

This is so great looking!! We are in a small apartment and I have been dreaming about new furniture solutions. I think it's time to give DH some winter projects to complete at his parents house I seriously love what you did. Looks SO good.
