I grew up with 2, so I always knew I wanted DD to have at least one sibling. DH was open to 3 kids because he came from a family of 3 and loved it. Once we had two kids, we thought it was the perfect balance for us, so we're most likely done.

I have no interest in playing zone defense. We like the relationship DD and DS has formed and I don't know how I feel about introducing another - I don't really feel like taking a gamble and seeing our kids fight 2 vs 1. Someone always seems to get left out. With 2, there's no chance of that.

Everything also seems to be packaged for families of 4 - so the convenience and practicality of a family of 4 makes sense to me. We are comfortable with 2 kids, but I feel like we'd be stretched thin with 3 - financially, physically, emotionally, relationally. I love being a mom, but that is not my only identity. I want time for family, for friends, for me and DH, for myself. We're able to have that with 2, but it'd be a lot harder with more.

We have balance in our lives right now. Our relationship is in a good place right now, we are moving forward with our jobs, and my health is finally getting back to a better place (I developed some health problems after having J and don't want to put myself through the risk of more with another).

There are a lot of reasons why we're stopping at 2, but really... the bottom line is... our family just feels complete. I'm sure if it didn't feel complete we'd find some way to make all the rest of the reasons work.

I've always wanted a medium to large family because I love love love having lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins around (as I did, growing up). I want what my grandma has!

DH never really thought about kids before we met (the first time we talked about it he said, "maybe 1 kid?', -- he was just 23 at the time), but he changed his mind some time before we got married and now wants 4 at least. haha.

we have 2 boys so far, and would love to have 2 girls next, although I know I can't expect that to necessarily happen! we'll see.

I knew I always wanted an even number so my LOs would always have a companion, but even so no one would be left out. I didn't want four, so two won. DH pretty much had the same thought process.

DH is one of 2 and always felt like somebody was missing, like they needed friends and others around to fill out the time/space. I'm one of 3 and that felt good. But my Dad is one of 4 and my mom one of 5 and I always loved those big family gatherings with loud dinners and loads of cousins running everywhere. So we hope to handle at least 3 with openness to just keep going if it feels possible! We just had #1 in May so, we've a ways to go!

#1 is coming in March. M and I are open to 1-3, we are just going to make the decisions as we need to.

@Skadi: I came from a family of six kids! It's not what I'm choosing for myself but I did love growing up with having a ton of siblings! My family remains pretty close as well. And we were all homeschooled lol. My mom was having children for 20 years haha.

I'm still not sure what I want! I'm happy with one for now, but my heart is open.

I knew I wanted a big family and to provide my children with siblings--but I also wanted to give enough time and attention to each. I'm the youngest of 4 and I always thought my parents should have stopped at 3 lol. Both my parents had to work a lot once they had me and none of my sisters and I really got the time with them that we needed (not that they needed to SAH but my dad worked days and my mom worked nights so we really never saw them much). DH has 1 sibling and 3 half siblings--he just wanted two children for a long time, since he was closest to fully biological sibling. He came around to having a third eventually. We feel like our family is complete with 3 now.

Im an only child and grew up lonely and wanting a house full of kids to make up for what I felt I missed out on as a child. When I met DH I said I wanted 9 kids. After some time I scaled ot down to reasonable 5 lol DH has always wanted 2-3. He has one sister and an adopted brother who came to their lives later in life. For a long time he really only wanted 2 kids but he also respected how I felt about my childhood as well as when my father died how hard that was for me to deal with alone that he eventually compromised and said we could have 3 but that was his limit. Truthfully if I was younger and could convince DH Id love 4 but I know this is his comfort level and I respect it too. I also value me time and sleep so I realize 3 is probably the limits of my abilities and sanity.

DH grew up in a house with 2 kids and I grew up in a family with 3 kids. DH wants 2-3 kids and I want 3-4 kids. Basically we both feel like what we grew up with worked but we both love families and big family get-togethers. I have a feeling we'll end up with 3.

DH and I both have 2 siblings. I hate it. I feel like one person is always left out (we each have 2 of one gender, 1 of the other).

DH wants 3 kids because they can all fit in a hotel room. I want 4, so they can pair up and no one is left out. It will definitely depend on finances, and right now we're looking at having 2, waiting a few extra years (like 4), and then having 1 or 2 more.

I love having siblings so I have always wanted more than one. I feel like infertility has taken the choice away from me though. We've put in a lot of time and money to have a child and I don't know of I want to go through it all again. We may end up one and done.

I came from a family with 5 kids and I love huge families. I love the chaos and laughter and love that comes with a big, tight knit family. DH comes from a family of 3 kids, and feels similarly. We are planning on 3, but would have 4 if we are in the right financial spot.

My sisters are my rocks. I can't imagine not having my two brothers and my two sisters. I really want to provide that sort of feeling for my kids. I love always having someone to call.

I come from a family of 3, but my mum is one of 7 and my dad is one of 12! I love the huge family dynamic at get-togethers etc, but I don't want that chaos is my daily life. I used to think I wanted 3, but I have since realized that only very rich people have 3 children in NYC, so we will stop at 2.

One child. I'm getting older and don't want older teens/ young adults to raise/ support during my retirement years. I have a so-so relationship with my sibling and hope to avoid the rivalry stress in my household. I don't want to make that many sacrifices.

My husband wants 2-3 though.

I have one sibling who never ever comes to visit my parents. He hasn't even met his nieces yet. My parents ALWAYS complain to me about why he doesn't visit and I hate hearing about it. Holidays are always me trying to visit my parents so they are not alone. I have all the pressure of always being there for my parents (which of course I would be anyways). So for this reason, I want more than 2.

I never had distinct ideas of what my ideal family size was, but I can say that I am happily done at one.
