@mrbee: how long does it take for our profile to update?

  3. anonysquire

@MamaMoose: I totally feel like it is already cliquey. I won't go into details because this isn't the time or the place.

One thing I really like about this feature is that I can upload pictures of DD or even share my email address and no one will be able to see those unless they have the membership. It makes me feel more secure when posting those types of things.

@prettylizy: That is a really good way to put it. I would love to be able to post photos in the future without worrying about people in my professional life finding me here... I shudder at the thought of a client finding out about my potential future pregnancy issues (discharge, funky bleeding..etc)

  6. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

I'm not sure yet. If I were pregnant or had a baby already, I think I'd be more inclined to "go gold," since I might be more concerned with privacy then. Now, I sort of just use HB sporadically. But, on the other hand, I like the idea of contributing $25 just to support the site. I definitely don't want it to go away forever or anything!

  7. DigAPony

@MamaMoose: Yes, I do. I don't think it's unusual, though, for any kind of community.

I wish I could but in my world $25 dollars is a lot of money and I can't justify spending that much on a website. Besides dh would kill me

  9. LaughLines

    clementine / 880 posts

I understand wanting to support mr. and mrs. bee but it seems like instead of just donating to them its blocking out other people and making things more exclusive and less of a community. I'm a bit disappointed. It would be sad for people to feel like they can't see the "good" posts because they don't pay for them and feel left out.

Ehh, I voted no. Don't get me wrong, I love HB and all, but again, don't think it's worth it at this point, especially with how many of y'all seem to be hanging out without it. I guess we'll see how this changes the site dynamic and take it from there.

  12. Reese

    pomegranate / 3521 posts

@Rubies: Its worth everyone getting the GOLD membership just to have an all access pass to all of this funky-ness

I have such an addiction to HB I already ran it by DH, he says he is ok with me paying for a membership. I don't know what I would do without this site, so if it supports Mr. and Mrs. Bee it's worth the $25 a year to get advice/questions answered. I don't use PayPal a lot though, so I would need to figure that out first.

  16. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

I'm leaning towards getting it. I'd like to support the site and I like the idea of getting extra features along with it. But either way I think all of the members here are what's important - people to start threads, respond to things, keep things active and fun, etc.

  17. LaughLines

    clementine / 880 posts

So is this going to lead to a "March POAS Gold" and a "March POAS non-gold" and a "November New Mom's Gold" and a "November new moms non-gold"?? seems divisive.

  18. Cherrybee

I will definitely be signing up..... I ran it by DH tonight and he agreed. I need to wait until pay-day though!

I'd like to but we are really strapped for cash at the moment since our washer just died. Maybe later?

  20. BoogieBea

    pomegranate / 3503 posts

I would do it to support the site but I'm not sure I'm liking the idea of private board posts. If I wasn't a gold member, I would be really put off if I saw a sea of gold only posts on the main boards page.

  21. Reese

    pomegranate / 3521 posts

@berdine: Hrmmm good point.. seems plausible

  22. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@berdine: I wouldn't think that would happen since those types of threads normally don't warrant a desire for privacy.

  23. heartonastring

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

I imagine I will in the future, but not at the moment, as we're in the midst of spending hundreds of dollars outfitting the nursery before baby arrives.

I really do worry that in the meantime the community will become cliquey though -divided along gold/non-gold lines - and that makes me sad

  24. mrbee

    admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts

There will be a natural balance between Gold threads and others... you won't get as many comments/feedback on Gold threads. Gold threads will be more for when you have something more private to share or get feedback on.

I appreciate everyone that's giving us a chance to see how things shake out! Bee and I have poured our hearts and souls into Hellobee, and have worked hard to make it a friendly and supportive community. I'm confident that that won't change, and if it does - you can rest assured that that's something we'd take very seriously!

  25. Crisark

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

I have to agree on the may make things a bit more 'clique-y' . We will have to see how it plays out.
I'm all for support mr. and mrs. bee but at the same time, I don't pay for websites that I'm on.
This website is for fun and connection with other mom's. I'm not a first time mom and I don't need much of the advice that's asked/given so I don't have as much need for the site when it comes down to it.
I just like the community feel and I'm concerned that's going to change.
We will just have to see.

  26. Rubies

    hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts

@berdine: No, I don't think so! I think one would post on the Gold boards for more private and sensitive issues.

  27. Bao

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts

@mrbee: will hostesses be encouraged to upgrade so they can be a part of every thread, and ensure even gold threads get attention?

  28. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

Not sure yet. While I definitely support Mr. & Mrs. Bee and understand the issues ad-blockers create, I'm not sure how much added value being a Gold Member would be (posting-wise). $25 is a reasonable fee though, especially for added privacy and PM options. I love seeing pics of others LOs and will want to post a ton once mine is here - so if the $25 ensures that some random weirdo on the web doesn't snag my baby's image for something, then I'm all for it!

  29. matador84

    papaya / 10560 posts

tough call! i think 25 is reasonable, but at the same time a luxury. but...i have gotten so much invaluable advice from the boards i might upgrade. i'll have to wait and see how funds are by my next payday march 15...and since we just bought a house-i'll reevaluate!

i do love the idea of donating to HB. that is something i would do as money comes up.

  30. derevival

    apricot / 363 posts

$25 is not a lot of money and certainly there is value to protecting your privacy.

My concern is that now we have started on this path, it's a slippery slope. I am worried about future content that will be subscription only.

I love this site though and will continue to use it!! Wait and see...

  31. anonysquire

    cantaloupe / 6923 posts

@shopaholic: I guess a random creepo could easily pay the 25 bucks as well.

  32. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

I think the $25 cost isn't an issue, but the gold/private posts don't really appeal to me. Maybe in the future when there are different features of the gold membership. I also agree with @berdine about my concerns.

  33. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@anonysquire: THAT is true! But maybe because you would need billing info to pay, it would be a deterrent?

  34. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

Once DH is working again I will definitely sign up. Cheaper than a parenting book but HB is a million times more valuable to me.

@mrbee: Oh cool! Ok I was just making sure topics in the gold threads would get answered as thoroughly as non-gold threads. Thanks

Probably not, but I don't know. I do worry about this becoming split ino the golds/not golds.
