Aaahhh I just posted on the announcment thread about getting it or not.
Pros- Extra privacy
Con- I am not sure DH would appreciate spending money on a social site. But then if most of the posts become private would it be fun to come on hellobee anymore
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
I am going to run it past DH tonight, but I assume he will say yes because he knows how much I love Hellobee (and that I am addicted!). If you do the math it's about $2/month, and I used to spend $4/day on Starbucks before I got pregnant (I haven't had Starbucks in almost 4 months!) so I totally deserve it

The privacy option isn't enough of an incentive for me at the moment. Perhaps later on if you can't read most of the posts or if I feel differently when we start TTC/get pregnant

I chose maybe. I don't know if I want to spend $25 on a website that really isn't something I need. But then again, I really love it here, and I couldn't imagine having limited access

@lawbee11: Thanks, just hearing that means a lot to me and Bee!!
apricot / 468 posts
I said probably not....right now at least! I'm not currently on as much as I used to be, that said, it doesn't mean I don't want to be! When I'm able to spend more time on here I will think about it then. Hellobee has been SO helpful through my pregnancy and still with my 6 month old Lo!

Not sure... I don't splurge on much (bring breakfast and lunch to work every day, etc.) so $25 is a lot. But, if the site becomes essentially private, I might have to consider it.

Yes. My main motivation is actually to support Mr. and Mrs. Bee for the work they do to provide a valuable resource.

You know I was just about to buy the gold membership but then I thought twice. I am big on the privacy thing but at the same time it feels too "secret club" to me. And I don't like that. I like the idea of paying to use this site but I don't like how non paying members don't get to be in the "secret" threads. I guess I'll have to keep thinking on it.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
I might...$25 isn't that much to spend. I would be nice to share pictures & ask personal questions without worrying about creepers (or worse, people that I know in real life!)" finding" me.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
I'm not sure. If there ends up being a ton of interesting threads with Gold only, then maybe.
coconut / 8854 posts
@anonysquire: Agree! I mean once you are a gold member, and you create a topic, would you automatiically choose gold, because well you paid for the membership so you might as well get your use out of it. Or do you choose for it to be posted public to get more responses. hmmm...decisions
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Mrs. Jacks: I'm thinking about gifting subscriptions as well!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
Hm. Will there ever be anymore features to it? If so, I will. But the privacy alone isn't selling me. Also, is there a way to tell who is a member?
coconut / 8430 posts
I hope it doesn't change the dynamic of the site too much. I love HB and don't want it to get cliquey with the paid and the non-paids.
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@MrsTiz: Click on the persons profile and it says classic or gold.
pomegranate / 3521 posts
@MrsTiz: beside their name it says GOLD
ie: if you were gold it would look like:
MRSTIZ
GOLD/ PEAR / 1800 POSTS
in your profile and posts
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@sunny: Exactly this!
And to the people saying they are gifting people gold memberships.... thats cool and all but why do you need to tell everyone? If you are going to gift it to someone why not just tell that person instead of making it like throwing bait into a fish tank.

@char54: Yeah, this comes on the day that my MIL discovered Google + and added me into one of her circles. I immediately went in and deleted public links to profiles. She really needs to stop friending me on social media sites.
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@anonysquire: Instead of thinking of it as "secret club"-ish, I think the selling point is the fact that you get more privacy! I think one would post to the public boards but when posting about something really TMI or sensitive, one would have the really private option of posting to Gold.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@MrsTiz: We will be adding more Gold features over time! Next up will probably be Private Messages... although we don't have a timeline on that feature yet, so I didn't mention it in the blog post.
@sunny: @anonysquire: I share your concern around maintaining the general community feel, and it's something we'll be monitoring closely!
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@mrbee: If there was just a place to donate money to the site I would be more willing to do that. But already I am seeing many of the people I keep up with not wanting to get gold memberships and I value their input. Thanks for monitoring.

I voted yes. I love this site and I want to help support it. I also like the idea of posting a topic for more privacy so I don't have to worry so much of someone IRL reading it. DH for sure would tell me no... but my paypal is linked to my personal checking acct so he doesn't have to know. lol
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@cascademom: bahaha - my biggest fear is someone finding me here. Not that I say anything bad or personal but I'm a private person IRL and would be embarrassed.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
I would to show my support for Mr. and Mrs. Bee and all they've done to keep the site as wonderful as it is. There's nothing like this out there and they've worked so hard to maintain it!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@anonysquire: @Reese: ooh thanks!
I like that you can gift it to members. I think that would be a nice way to show someone you appreciate their advice on here!
watermelon / 14206 posts
I'm with @mamamoose...totally doing it to support the site I love.
pear / 1787 posts
No. I totally understand that the site is a business, but I wouldn't pay to use any website. I also think, as another poster said above, that it will get even more clique-y.
bananas / 9118 posts
Absolutely, for the amount of time I spend on here each day, I will happily support Mr. & Mrs. Bee! I have gained so much from this site!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
I don't think so, but I'm considering it. I think I will have a hard time swinging it to the hubs!
honeydew / 7909 posts
I probably would but not right away. Especially with the talk of private messaging.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@anonysquire: I plan on telling the user and I wasn't trying to throw bait into the waters. Not at all. It was not my intention. I was agreeing with Mrs.Jacks. It was just my excitement on the ability to gift subscriptions.
pomelo / 5073 posts
Just did! I love the info I get here and I want to support Mr. And Mrs. Bee.
GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts
I've already done it. The information I've gotten from this site amasses more than 100 parenting books and for the price of one book, I'm in!
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@DigAPony: I'm surprised that you say "more" cliquey. Do you think HB is cliquey now? I don't feel that way at all...
