Definitely, I love this site and want to show my support to the Bee family because I know how much love they put into this site for us.

  2. CupQuakeWalk

    coconut / 8475 posts

Yes---but I'll give it a few weeks. I like to see how things play out before joining in. Sounds like a good idea though!

Yes! I definitely like the idea of being able to share photos of my LO without it being available on google. I've shared a few of her already but I limit them! I don't think it'll become divisive, I don't see it as a 'wall' at all - I think of it as an option to have privacy if needed as opposed to a secret hellobee or something. I still plan to post to the main boards, but am glad to have option of privacy too!

I voted yes and joined. I'm doing it to help out this site, which I think is great!.

I signed up cause I think all the support and knowledge I have gained over the last year are totally worth $25. I know that once baby is here, I am going to need it ten fold.

It isn't that much when you break it out per month, and even then per week.

I have been reading HelloBee for a while and I didn't register for a long time and even now I rarely comment.

I thought I would say this.... 25 dollars is well worth the wealth of information I get from this site on a daily bases.

  7. Sugar.Biscuit

    nectarine / 2063 posts

I choose maybe. I would only get it because I don't like having limited access and curiosity would get the best of me. I would not get it because I hate paying for sites.

    @Smurfette: It's like 50 cents a week lol

I am undecided - for now I wont be joining. I agree with others concerns about the site becoming clique-y. As a few others have mentioned I would have been more comfortable with a donation option and leaving the community aspect alone.

Fingers crossed it doesn't change the awesome-ness that HB is!

I have to admit, it is strange seeing the gold bee threads already :\

@Ash: @Reese: I know ...I didn't think it would bother but I'm feeling "less than" right now. I might buy a membership...but then I will be contributing to making others feel that way.

I wish we could support the site in other ways, such as a smartphone app.

I'm having mixed feelings. I love HB and really value this website. I love this community and I love that this feature will support Mr. & Mrs. Bee. However, I do worry about it becoming clique-y. Also, we usually have a pretty tight budget each month. It's hard for me to justify spending that money on a website membership. For right now, I'd say maybe. I'd like to see more features before joining, but if a lot of bees go gold, I may join before that happens.

    @Ash: @Reese: agreed!

@Reese: I'm right there with you! I thought I was nuts, but felt all sad and left out...

Maybe there could be an option where you don't have to see the Gold posts?

  18. Mrs Green Grass

    pomelo / 5628 posts

I don't like to not see content so I think I'll get it. I'm sad that the site can't make money the way it is, but I also think $25 is definitely reasonable. I've never liked any other forum sites...hellobee is awesome. : )

  19. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@char54: I thought I'd be fine too but when I see the topics being posted under the gold status I can't help but wonder if the privacy feature is necessary for the thread. Like a tmi pregnancy (even tho I'm not ku) question... I like that I can search hb to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

  20. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@Ash: agreed ... I worry that the "good stuff" (ie, stuff I don't feel comfortable asking my friends so I come to HB for info) will only be accessible to gold members.

  21. Mrs Green Grass

    pomelo / 5628 posts

I guess I also hope that people still make most posts "classic" unless they really need the privacy. It would be frustrating for a month thread for example to be gold because then not everyone could participate - even though those threads are often personal.

  22. Reese

    pomegranate / 3521 posts

@knittylady: samesies @knittylady: group hug! @char54: I feel the same way

  23. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

I've been here since the early days so I'm actually really surprised by the clique-y comments. I can certainly understand/see where it's coming from. But I feel it's making it seem more of an issue than it is on HB.

I wouldn't post everything on gold just bc I can. Only things I don't want anyone on google to see. ie I currently have some job concerns that I don't want to post on the open but can really use some objective input on.

And I for one have been asking for private threads forever. Not secret, private. I never share a pic of myself or my LO on here bc of creepers, lurkers and trolls. I would be more open to share it in a private thread. And yes any creep can pay $25 for the gold but you're certainly dwindling the numbers!

For the record I was on the "maybe" camp and actually feel this is a good resolution to trying to keep HB as normal as possible while giving the bees some income they needed.

  24. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

@Mrs Green Grass: I hope so, too! Those monthly posts are so helpful for everyone involved. I think because they are so big and have so many posts, they keep a lot of people who aren't involved on that thread away. I always see them but think of them as sort of private boards because they're regarding something specific that I can't relate to, you know?

  25. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Ash: Ah! me too! I can't handle not being able to see those threads! I'll probably join tonight!

  26. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

I'll be honest and say that I'm generally more of a lurker than an active poster because I don't have my own kids yet, though I've learned a lot of helpful things here! But my impression, which I realize some may not agree with, is that I almost feel it would be better to have either the whole site be subscription only or the whole site be a free for all. Having it just partially subscription only feels like it creates two tiers of users and I can understand why some may feel left out.

ETA: from this thread, it seems like most active users will end up buying the gold membership if they can afford it to avoid feeling left out. To me, it feels more coercive, like seeing all the gold threads will pressure people to buy the subscription, rather than just going ahead and making the site subscription only and letting people decide what to do that way.

  27. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

I duno you guys. I'm really not liking this as the night goes on. I could easily pay the $25 and get over it but it seems like a divisive community. I hate looking at the front page and knowing I can't read or answer some of the threads.

Maybe it will get better as people try out different topics and some unofficial norms are developed. If not, I'm not sure what ill do. Either pay up or try to convince my Sept mamas to make a private FB group.

  28. Boogs

    hostess / papaya / 10540 posts

@Mrs Green Grass: I definitely don't think anyone would make those types of threads Gold only just because not all those that participate are gold subscribers. I think the intention of those threads is just to have a place for more private-y things or photos of LOs, not threads that are intended to be cliquey or make anyone feel left out.

For those that are on the fence, would a Gold membership sound even better if you could delete your own threads? It's just an idea I had, but maybe if there's enough interest that's a feature they could implement? http://suggestions.hellobee.com/topic/self-deletions-for-gold-members

  29. Mrs. Yoyo

    blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts

I just want to second the ladies who say they intend to use Gold for things they might not want IRL people to stumble on. The intention is definitely NOT clique-type stuff, and none of the threads so far have anything like that. And I think you all know the Bees wouldn't stand for that, either.

  30. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@MrsSCB: agreed - i think it would be better if everyone paid or no one did. If you gave people an option as to what they can afford ($5, $10, $15, $25) etc I'd give more knowing I was supporting a cohesive community with equal access for all.

  31. MsMini

    grapefruit / 4056 posts

No. Already, the gold posts being visible on my feed is annoying me as well, so I will probably decrease my presence on the boards more than I already have.

  32. anonysquire

    cantaloupe / 6923 posts

Ya I'm out. After seeing the gold threads I think it's a bad idea. As someone who has already been "found" by people I didn't want to be found by I'm still not about to go private. I'm an open person so maybe that's just me. I liked how it used to be where if people needed to put an anonymous "I'm pregnant" post they went anonymous and we all tried to guess who it was. Now I can't see anything and it's more annoying than anything. I could easily pay 25 bucks but now after tonight I won't.

  33. Reese

    pomegranate / 3521 posts

@Boogs: @Mrs. Yoyo: I think I speak for all of the non-goldies when I say that we appreciate this. The unfortunate thing is that it cant be said for all. Realistically, people can use their gold status for whatever threads they like. Perhaps they want to keep their entire identity private.. so "which pair of shoes should I buy" is now private because they paid their $25... which is fair but kind of crappy at the same time

  34. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@MsMini: I'm glad you said that. It's annoying me that there are threads that I can't see. I am very open to paying, but for features that are more useful. I don't think the private threads will go over well, simply because if something is TMI to one user, it might be my exact question that I am now unable to learn about.

Maybe the option to post anonymously would be better? Like you want to get personal but are embarrassed? Instead of all the people creating new usernames to try and hide.

  35. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@MrsTiz: oh I like that so much better (the Ability to go anonymous!)

  36. IcebergMom

    persimmon / 1295 posts

I think it's a little early to judge what Gold posts will be like! Everyone sounds so negative! This is supposed to be fun!

  37. IcebergMom

    persimmon / 1295 posts

Hubby just said he's happy LO's pictures and info will be more private if and when I decide I post them in gold posts.

  38. sorrycharlie

    hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts

@IcebergMom: I agree! All the gold post so far have been legitimate privacy concerns. There haven't been any trivial ones or any abuse of membership.

  39. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

After refreshing the board, now I'm totally over it. There are threads I want to see but cant.

Even maybe being able to set timers on your post? Say I put a picture of my family up, it could be neat to set a timer where the post will be automatically deleted after an hour? I don't know, just tossing around ideas because this is really offputting, especially since bloggers and admins get it for free. Those people post the most often, so why does it make sense for them to privately answer something I want to know. PMs make more sense for that

  40. Mrs. Yoyo

    blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts

@Reese: Totally understand. I'd be really surprised if people use it like that (at least a lot) though!
