This was a big rule in our house- if a book was made into a movie, you could not see the movie before you had finished reading the book. If my mom knew a kid or young adult book was being made into a movie, we would both read it and then see the movie when it came out and compare them. The books were always better! I actually enjoyed having that rule and think I will do it with my kids. Did you have this rule? Will you with your kids?

Only I'd my lo was a poor reader or second-language learner. In that case it can actually help to see the movie first.

It wasnt a rule in my house, but because we loved reading we usually always had read the book before the movie

@mrs. 64: I think this is a really fun rule and a great incentive for reading! After all, the book is almost always better than the movie!
I offered this to my stepkids while they are visiting us for a month: Let's all read Hunger Games together and then we can watch the movie! SD says "I'm not interested." Ouch! I guess if I start young with my LO it might work ...
