Hello Ladies,

Last week at my office I asked for a pretty substantial raise. While I was waiting for my bosses response, I started to feel guilty - like I had pushed too hard or didn't deserve it or had left a bad impression on my boss. Then I was mad at myself for thinking those negative thoughts!

I got what I wanted (yay!) but it really got me thinking about women in the workplace. Why do we expect less for ourselves than we often deserve? Why do others get away with calling assertive women "bitch" and assertive men "powerful"?

I just finished reading an HB thread about a HBer who was called into her HR office because her boss (another woman) was uncomfortable with the time she's taking to pump. It reminded me of an article printed a few months ago:

What do you think? Can women still have it all? Or not? If not, why not? What experiences have you had that have shown that there has been progress on this issue? Or maybe shown that women, especially mothers, are still marginalized at work?
