WA got a B, but my company is based in CA, so I get some additional perks, I think.

My state is a C but my company is based out of a different state and they got an F, which seems more on par. They are just behind the times so to speak..... we just got the ok to wear open toe'd shoes about 4 yrs ago

@Ajsmommy: I don't like open-toed shoes in the workplace! I think peep toes are okay for, say, a more casual Friday/business casual environment, but all in all, I feel like I see way too much of people's feet! Maybe it's because I loathe shoes that make flipping noises as people walk by.

A-
I feel lucky to have the benefits that come with living in California... especially because we certainly pay for it as far as cost of living.
Currently looking to move out of state and that means either a B or F. Uh oh.

@MsLipGloss: lol! Well ours have to be shoe - shoes... No open back, so there's no flipping

@MsLipGloss: I was thinking of you yesterday while I was getting my lunch....there was too much foot and not enough shoe going on all around me!

C -- but I'm a state employee so we get no maternity leave just FMLA and have to use our sick and vacation time to pay it.

F, and it doesn't surprise me. Thankfully my employer was pretty good though.

Big black F....no surprise we have no rights for mothers what so ever.

@looch: hahaha! It's seriously distracting, even with my door closed. I would be AWFUL as an HR person . . . because strict dress code enforcement would be on my radar! I can forgive a little here and there, but sometimes I look around and wonder where the heck did the standards go?!

@MsLipGloss: I am in between two girls in shoe flipping hell. I mean really how hard is it to pick up our damn feet when you walk.

@Smurfette: That's insanity! And OMG that means they're both wearing inappropriate shoes AND not picking their feet up when they walk. That's just so lazy, and annoying. For peete's sake, I wore heels to work every day until the day I delivered. I don't think women have to wear heels, but seriously!

@MsLipGloss: One reason I hate summer time. Although the one lady does it all year. But the sandals make it 10x worse.

My state got an F. Honestly, my company is considered one of the best, though, so I live in a bubble, apparently

The state where I live got a B - but I work in a neighboring state, which got a D.
But I'm very lucky that my workplace itself is great and goes above and beyond for working parents (12 weeks paid family leave, unlimited sick/vacation time, designated pumping room, etc.)

A-! Yay for California. I'm a bit surprised by this but pleasantly so. I wonder if it's because we have paid family leave.

I live in California but my particular employer has different, statutorily exempt policies from the state norm, so I think it really depends on who you work for. I also have a 7 day waiting period for disability to kick in and then get 50% pay for 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for C-section. After that, its all my own leave. And while I'm on disability, I don't get service credits towards my pension. I do get some perks like getting to have my job held for me for up to a year, if I chose to go unpaid, but yeah, its all a trade off. If I had to do it over again, I would buy a private short term disability policy to supplement my income loss.
My in-laws live in Michigan, who got an F, but my SIL works for a college who gave her 6 weeks of paid maternity leave that she can tack her own leave on top of. And she gets fantastic retirement benefits.

B, so not too bad I guess. We are one of the few states that offers some type of financial compensation for maternity leave.

D. Completely unsurprised. This is the same state that passed a law prohibiting cities from raising the minimum wage within city limits. NO MONEY FOR YOU SHIFTLESS PARENTS/MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS!

@Mrs. Pen: You can read the full report:
http://www.nationalpartnership.org/research-library/work-family/expecting-better-2014.pdf
It lists out why each state got their rating starting on page 26

@chopsuey: Yep. Our state does the bare minimum (only what it is obligated to do under Federal law).
