A male doctor delivered Olive (though the other female doctor who was his junior was super duper awesome and did all the cheerleading which made my delivery awesome). I've had a male obgyn, but I've just had much better care with female doctors, and I just feel more comfortable with them.
Does it matter to you whether your obgyn is a man or a woman?

Mine is male and he takes great care of me. He is a family friend so I trust his judgement and know he is taking the best care with me

No, especially since the OB that attended Vivi's birth when we transfered was a nightmare doctor, and I haven't gotten over that. I think another man would just bring back the fear and bad memories.

I have a male obgyn, and he's pretty good... but I'd feel more comfortable asking certain questions to a female.

I don't think would mind. I had a male urologist when I had a kidney surgery and it was fine. My assistant OB's were male as well. It doesn't bother me too much any more.

Nope, all i care about is whether they are competent and up-to-date on the research that's out there.

I wouldnt even go to a practice that has a male OB on staff for fear I'd get him on rotation when I went into labor... I'm also not comfortable with male students or residents attending my birth. I just can't. But I do work directly under a male OBGYN and he is fabulous with our patients.

Woman all the way! I want someone who knows what it is like to operate this equipment on a personal basis. I wanted someone who had been through labor. I loved my OB!

Before I switched to my midwives, I had been seeing a male OB-GYN. I switched only because I wanted to deliver at a birth center--he was amazing, actually the best health care professional I've ever had!

I never thought I would be ok with a male Dr. But I ended up with a practice with 2 male OBGYN Dr's and I love them! I could leave their 2 female nurse practitioners though.

My current OB/GYN is a male and the on-call doc that delivered my son was male. I'm thinking next time I'll go with a female. I've found I'm more comfortable asking a female doc questions.

I've always ever had female GYNS, but the only practice near me that delivered at my preferred hospital had 1 man and 5 women. After I'd been going there a few months, one of the women left (who, it turns out, I REALLY disliked) and was replaced by a male who ended up delivering my LO.
Both he and the other male ended up being my favorites. They were so kind, funny, and compassionate.
After I had been in labor for 24+ hours with very painful contractions/back labor and was just about at my wit's end, the midwife told me to "enjoy" my last night alone with my husband and call back the next day (contractions had been stalled at 6-7 min apart, 60 sec long, for the last 8 hours... they'd been 4-5 min apart for a few hours before that). Having had kids of her own did not make her more helpful or compassionate. Two hours later, I was so miserable I called again and got the male doc and he was like, "Come in - you've been in agony long enough, let's see what's going on." OMG, I was so relieved. I was 5 cm and was admitted. I got an epidural and 20 min later, I was 7-8cm. He was wonderful the whole time. (And nothing against midwives, but I swear, if it was up to that particular one, I'd still be in labor (j/k).

My obgyn is a man. I've actually had better experiences with men than women. They've been more gentle and professional. That said, LO was delivered by a woman we loved.

My OB is a woman but I saw a male RE a few years ago and thought he was wonderful. I'd rather have the right woman OB over a man but I would rather have a good male OB over just any woman.

I really wanted a woman OB, but was limited to choices based on my insurance group and my pick of hospital. I told Dh I really wanted a woman OB, but somehow I ended up with a male OB and it was completely fine. I thought I would be really uncomfortable but I wasn't. Shocking, he was really laid back and made me feel really comfortable. He came to visit me in the hospital in a Hawaiian shirt. Lol. Overall, I'll go back to him for any future pregnancy.

Not one bit! The ob who delivered DS was male, and in the high pressure situation of a ventouse failing 4 times, a distressed baby and an episiotomy med free the last thing I was thinking of was the gender of my doctor. He did a great job, and I would not have been any more comfortable if it had of been a female. A make ob also assisted in my delivery of DD, but as the labour has some challenged the head of department had to intervene. But he was great as well and offered a lot more emotional support than some of the midwives I had.

I have a male OB/GYN and I'm glad! Love that guy. Was skeptical at first but after I met him, we just clicked. Wish I didn't have to stop seeing him after my postpartum visit but his office is a bit of a drive from new house

I chose to have a female OB-GYN. I'm just more comfortable getting my care from a woman. I ended up with a male doc for my delivery, though. I was beyond caring at that point - and DH and I both liked him a lot!

I've had bad experiences with female doctors in the past (mostly due to horrible bedside manners) that I actually prefer male doctors. A male obgyn delivered my 2 kids and I absolutely loved him! He made the labor and delivery process relaxed and as fun as it could be. Unfortunately, we moved so I couldn't go to him for our current pregnancy, but I chose a male this time around also. I find him to have a very gentle approach which I appreciate.

I've been seen by one and it was a very negative experience where he wanted to do something more invasive that wasn't protocol but I realize that is one instance only. I am prejudiced because they tend to have larger hands though!! I lucked out with my OB who I loved and now that we've moved I'd definitely prefer a female who has given birth herself (and has petite hands lol). I had my postpartum visits with a really young doctor who hasn't had kids and some of her comments and answers to my questions were so awkward.

I prefer having a female OB just because I'm more comfortable with a woman. The one female OB I've seen wasn't my favorite doctor. She was older and just rude in general. The OB that ended up leading my csection was male and he did my 6 week PP visit. He was great but I was so embarrassed because he was so handsome. haha 
I've also had two ER visits where I needed a PAP smear and the doctors were male. Both times were so painful!

I have always had male ob/gyms for my annual care and haven't had a problem. I love the male ob gyn I have now. He's very easygoing and funny and always takes the time to talk even if he's running behind.
I've had both male and female practitioners that I didn't care for.

Before having S, I would've said no way. The first male doctor I ever saw for anything was one of the OB's in my practice - the only male. He was seriously amazing. He wasn't my doctor & didn't deliver Sadie, but I saw him quite a few times over the course of my pregnancy & I loved him. I'd go back to him again & again. It made me much more comfortable with male OB/GYN care. Yesterday a man put in my Mirena & I didn't even flinch!

I've had both. The first one was nice, the second one was awful. He lost me as a patient when he asked me if I was sure I didn't need an STD test (this is after I told him I was in a monogamous, stable, married relationship). Now I see a midwife and I love her.

Yes mine is fantastic. I nearly ruptured my cervix during delivery and he helped me avoid an emergency c section.

I prefer female doctors and have had three since college, where I was seen by whoever was on duty. One of my HS classmates joined his father's practice and they have a stellar reputation especially with infertility. His dad is Celine Dion's physician. If we have fertility issues I would switch to him.

Yes. I go to an all women practice because I just don't feel comfortable with a man. I used to work at an OB that had male doctors and they were very nice..... but I don't want them near my who-ha.

I had a practice with mostly men, some women. I actually enjoyed the presence of the male doctors more than the women. I loved the doctor that delivered M and will go to him for my annual exams from here on out. I was always uncomfortable with male obgyn's until I had her. Now it's not a thing for me anymore.

There were male Doctors in the practice I went to with DS, and one delivered him. As far as delivery, doctors are only there for pushing the baby out for the most part, so that part doesn't bother me. But, I really prefer to see women in regular check ups.
