I'm probably going to leave R (8.5 months) with my mom when I go to visit my BFF and her new baby in the hospital today but I did contemplate bringing her. I am mostly leaving her so I can focus on the new baby and not worry about taking care of R. I hadn't even thought about the germ factor.
Would you bring your baby to the hospital (specifically L&D)? Why or why not?

Nope. I would not feel comfortable exposing a newborn to whatever germs my LO may be carrying.

I wouldn't. Too much chance of her carrying germs and affecting all those newborns. I don't even think that is allowed in hospitals?? I think some allow children if they're immediate family member.

Nope! Honestly, I think that would be rude, for the germ factor. But also, someone would have to watch yours while u hold the newborn. Pretty much the reasons u listed lol.

Nope. Even I hate going to the hospital for visit with all the nasty germies they have. I would take my infant to visit a newborn at home though, so it's not a matter of me being scared of exposing the newborn to something they aren't already exposed to being there to begin with.

No, I wouldn't. The hospital I delivered at wouldn't even allow non-sibling visitors under the age of 12 because of the potential to spread germs/infections.

Most hospitals won't allow kids in the maternity ward unless they are siblings these days.

I took my 14 month old to visit her cousin and MIL brought her at 16 months when our baby was born.
We checked with my BIL & SIL first.

As stated by PPs, at our hospital, the only kids under 12 that are allowed are siblings, so no.

Well, i brought E when she was 2 months because I was visiting a friend while on maternity leave. I held her the whole time and just chatted with my friend (and brought her flowers). it was no big deal at that age, but I wouldn't do it now that she's older.
Our hospital has an open visitation policy--as long as the mom's ok with it, they're ok with it

Nope and the hospital I gave birth at, under 2 isn't allowed unless a sibling.

You might want to check with the hospital, ours doesn't allow non-siblings under 10 in to see the babies.

We brought LO to the hospital to visit our best friends' new baby when J was 12 weeks. Both the mother and father are our best friends so DH and I both went--we didn't think about leaving J at home, though now I realize we just assumed! Oops

We brought Lo when she was 6 months old to see SIL and her baby. It was at SIL request that we bring her and the nurses ate it up.

No. I think it's be too distracting and I wouldn't want to expose my or the other baby to any germs.

I brought my 11 month old but I made sure she didn't go near the baby. I didn't get a chance to hold the baby though because I had to take care of my own LO!

Nope. Hospitals are sooo dirty - wouldn't want a LO/toddler playing on the floor, which I'm sure they would want to do.

At 8.5 months old, I would have left her home too! They're too mobile at that stage and getting into everything.
When I had LO, my good friend came to visit with her 3 month old baby and it was not an issue. The midwives all cooed over her son and he just slept in his pram the whole time whilst she cuddled my LO and helped me figure out BF'ing! I was really glad to have her there!
