If it meant enough to you to deal with the hassle and the possibility that people could still spell it wrong the other way!

Not long after LO was born I started to regret hyphenating his last name because everyone who had to look up his name in a system complained about "oh the kid with the long name". It's not even that long. If we keep getting the comments I might be motivated to do it.

I thought about this too. My LO's name is constantly misspelled. In the first year you can easily change it through the SS dept, after that I think it's harder.

@Mrs. Pen: Is the Y that much more common? Like, I wonder if just as many people would try to spell it with the I then anyway? I guess the baseball player does Y so probably more people would go with that.

To answer the question, spelling is something we thought a really long time about in general (I have one of those names that is always "With an I or an E?" so I wanted one that only had one way to spell it). So I wouldn't change her name, but there is only one way to spell it. Not sure what I would do in your situation!

Yep. We changed DS' middle name.

@Mrs. Pen: we are changing a part of it but it keeps getting pushed to the back burner. But LO doesn't even know that par of her name is there so she won't miss it... I don't even see it as a big deal.

@travelgirl1: I can;t imagine A's name any other way either!

I don't think I would change the spelling of my LO's name, although it often gets mispronounced from reading it or misspelled from hearing it.....even though it is the most common spelling in French. It is just in English where people get confused, but I think LO will be okay.

In your case, I would do it if it really bothers you. The only person to consider is LO and if he can't spell it yet, then you still have time

For spelling, like what you're describing, yes. But I wouldn't totally change lo's name!
