Nope...they live only 10 min away...we're going a bit farther away!

We're having this dilemma now. Both sides would be so helpful if we lived nearby but neither of them live near cities that I've ever wanted to live in. A place that fits us much better is 6 hrs from family though. It's a really tough choice.

We've talked about it and would love to, but it doesn't really make sense for us professionally right now.

I would, but I moved to where we are because it was a healthy distance from them. I'm not enamored of the city they live in too. Living close to my inlaws would be a diasaster. It wouldn't be healthy for our marriage and family.

I'd consider it, but it would cause major issues being closer to my mom than the in-laws (and I could never live close to the in-laws). Only way I could ever see it is if an amazing job opened up there for DH or something.

I'm trying to convince my mom to move closer to us. It would make her life easier and she'd see A more often.

We moved 6 hours away from our families (they lived in the same city) but then his parents moved to be closer to us (and other siblings) so they are 35 mins away, which is a good distance I think. No kids yet, and I think DH's parents will be helpful, but I think I am really going to miss my parents, especially my mom, when we start having kids.

ETA - When I was a kid, my parents bought a house in a new neighborhood, and then my grandparents bought a house in the same neighborhood several streets away. Growing up, I thought it was awesome. My mom said she was really mad when they bought it, but it ended up being really convenient.

It's a consideration for us, at least in the next few years. We would end up being closer to the ILs, but would probably see my parents more. It would still be hours away from either.

We live 45 minutes away from both my parents and in-laws. That means we are close enough for frequent visits but just far enough away for unplanned drop-by's.

No, but I've been harassing my parents to move to my city for years and they are finally going to do it. Win!

I would like to live closer to dhs parents. My parents are too busy for us, but dhs are amazing. They live 2.5 hours away right now and we see them 1-2 tines a month.

I live next door to my parents. I love it! We have dinner together and they watch the kids when we need them too. We live in LA and my in laws live in San Diego. It would be nice if they moved a little closer but we still see them at least once a month,

Nope! But my MIL lives 30 min away and that's a good spot for us! I like my personal radius bubble

we did move closer to my parents, for job reasons and for help with LO. we were living 5 hours away, and now live 10 minutes away. while we don't rely on them a ton (don't want to wear out our welcome!), it has been really nice living close by.

My parents live very close and they don't do all those things. My mom babysits once in a while, but we have to ask and she sometimes complains. She never cooks or cleans for us like some other parents. She does work in a restaurant, though, so sometimes we can get free food (once a month or so).

I'd actually like to live closer to my in-laws. They are retired and love babysitting and have a big ranch with a horse and tractors that Liam loves. They are about 2.5 hours away, so we see them once a month or so. Then again, they are my in-laws and while I love them, they do get on my nerves sometimes.

No, because I think my parents will move closer once we have a baby. We're 1/2 hr from his parents and 1 hr from mine.

Nope, my parents actually moved away from me 6 years ago! From what they've told me about the economy in their new area, we'd never move down there, and both of us would not have super great career opportunities down there. We're here for the great schools and jobs so we're here for the long haul. My parents, however, are thinking about moving back up here after they retire. But that won't be for another 5 years at least, so our kids will be 9 and 6 then...! So while they'd definitely still be a huge help, the benefits of having family close by seem to be when the kids are really young.

We would only move close to my MIL if Wagon Sr. had an amazing job opportunity since there are good schools and plenty of jobs for me in the area. But I don't see that happening.. The opportunities here for both of us are much greater and we love this area.
