DH and I think it might be fun to move to Korea for a summer or possibly longer so our kids can learn Korean from the natives!
It'd be nice to brush up on our Korean too!

@mrs. wagon: Yeah. I went to Korea for a summer when I was 5! Made all the difference in the world! Really learned the language during those 3 months.

@chopsuey119: I'd seriously consider it if our work allowed for it! Maybe send the kids to Korea if we had close relatives who'd be willing to have them for the summer.. well, maybe when they're much older, like middle school or early high school.

@mrs. wagon: My parents sent me and my sister to Korea for the summer. I was 5 and my sister was 8. We stayed with my dad's sister and my grandma..
I think my mom regrets sending us by ourselves though. Haha.

I'd be horribly homesick. DH was discussing a job opportunity on the east coast, but I just can't bring myself to move away from my family.

We'd take trips or send them on study abroad programs, but not move completely!

I think I'd push for French immersion school or something like that, over moving to another country. Mainly because then I would have to learn a new language too...

No, it's too disruptive if the kids are school aged...they'd either have to go to an international school or risk repeating a grade when we came home since they'd probably not be able to handle school in the new language.
eta: I'd consider moving to another country for other reasons, though, just not language alone.

Absolutely! We plan to raise our kids overseas in multiple countries so they can be exposed to multiple languages and cultures.
My husband and I were both raised abroad and we gained SO much from it, and we can't wait to give this opportunity to our children.
We're moving to Kosovo next fall, and we'll be there several years. After that we'll see, but we've talked about Indonesia, Yemen, Morocco, Vietnam, etc.
We'll homeschool, so that won't be an issue.

Yup I have seriously considered it so that they can learn the language and know where they come from. Germany or China would be our two. Having been to both I would love living in either.
Now to just find a overseas job that will also pay my mortgage along with a paycheck!

@Arden: I am so jealous!
You should write a guest post for the blog about the process. Visas, job (abroad @ current), housing, kids etc. I'm very curious about it and there's not a ton of info out there. I've gone as far as emailing bloggers that are Americans living abroad with their family.

I don't think so. We've lived abroad and I think I am done with that. Too lazy to move to another country again.

We are living abroad now but it's because of DH's job. I would not want to move just so our kids can learn a language. It's too much work just so our kids can learn a language. I can see going somewhere for a summer but not for longer.

Not just for language exposure. DH's family speaks another language so they'll learn one from them.
