Be strong! I think sleep training at the same time is a good idea, because his exhaustion will help him get to sleep. Nap training and sleep training teach the same thing--not to rely on you as a sleep crutch. He has to learn it for both, anyway, so personally I think doing it at the same time will mean less tears for him and you.

Maybe it would help if you gave yourself a goal. Come what may, you will stick with sleep training for five days. It's only five days--you can put up with and get through practically anything if it is only five days. During those five days, stay consistent and don't let yourself give in. If at the end of those five days you do not see any improvement in his sleep, you can reassess and make a new plan.

I'd try to night train tonight and see how it goes. Night was easier for us because their natural instinct to sleep was much higher then. Then see how the first nap goes. There's no law that says you have to nap train. It may not be the right thing for you or your LO. However, nap training took us one hellish day. They (twins) screamed for naps all day and the next day they rolled over and fell asleep. It's not like that for every nap now, but things are 700 times better than they were. So I do thing you should try just once tomorrow and see. Your LO might surprise you!

Agree with above. Night train first. Get that under control then tackle naps.

Oh, definitely night train before nap training! Get it well established. However…I wouldn't start tonight. You really don't want to sleep train an overtired baby, so tomorrow you should do whatever you need to do to make naps happen, and then try night training. Continue to do whatever you need to do to make naps happen while you night train. When nighttime sleep is going well, then tackle naps.

ETA: Oh, too late. But I'm glad it went ok for you tonight. I still stand by my advice for making naps happen however you can tomorrow.
