I couldn't. I might want a duplicate of my wedding band one day to sandwich my e-ring with my other wedding band, but I'd never want something different. I think it depends on how sentimental you are! I am super attached to my ring, but I know some people aren't. My mom, however, upgraded both her setting and stone. It was no biggie for her.

How attached are you to the setting you have? Is the setting fixable?

I would love a new setting. Mine is not a straight band, so every wedding band I tried on with it was awful. I've never *loved* my setting. Sorry, DH!

I would just fix my current setting, if that was possible. I really like it, plus I'm attached to it for sentimental reasons. If it was damaged and I couldn't fix it, I would probably replace it with almost the same exact thing with just a tiny modification to make it more comfortable.

I would consider a new setting for my engagement ring...though it wouldn't be an "upgrade," it'd probably be a "downgrade!" I have a pave solitaire band right now and have been thinking about switching back to a plain solitaire band (and keeping my pave wedding band). It's a suuuper high setting and gets caught on evvvverything!

at this moment in time I wouldn't. I love my rings a whole lot and can't see why I'd want to replace them. However, in 25 years that may all change!

@bluestriped bee: Aww! I'd go for the fix and then spring for the anniversary band later.

I love my setting. If anything, I would change it to platinum instead of white gold but our jeweler didn't recommend doing that.

I wouldn't! My DH had it custom made and put a lot of time into it. I would hurt his feelings if I changed it. Luckily I love my setting.

I'm super sentimental about my wedding band and my engagement diamond but the engagement setting I would love to change. I would love get rid of the side diamonds and set the main stone into a simple solitaire.

I've already reset my engagement ring twice - and replaced my wedding ring twice. DH proposed with a ring that he knew I'd have to reset because he chose a stone he liked in a hideous setting. I worked with someone to use the platinum from the original setting, but it never looked right to me so just before the wedding I got a setting I liked. As time went on I regretted choosing those proportions! So I'd do it again someday. To me it's just the setting...I kept the stone that he gave me, and the most important part, the husband!

I have an eternity band and a regular solitaire e-ring..
Have thought about getting a matching eternity setting for my 5th anniversary.

@chopsuey119: I have a half eternity band (with a 6 prong solitaire setting) for my e-ring, and my wedding band is a half eternity band too (I thought I was too clutzy for the 3/4 or full eternity - lol!)

@MsLipGloss: You just described my ring! 6 prong with half eternity channel setting for e-ring and half eternity channel wedding. I thought full eternity would get too banged up with hitting things.

@LindsayInNYC: Ahhh - good to know (I have white gold too - and mine need to be redipped)! And yep, we sound like ring twins . . . the only difference being that my eternity bands are prong set.

@chopsuey119: That's the main reason I regret not getting full eternity bands!

@MsLipGloss: We got engaged 8/09, married 9/10. My rings were redipped in 9/11 or so? The fact that I had worn the e-ring a year longer made the color difference a little more noticeable. They're starting to yellow again but it's not as noticeable so I just leave it be. I worry platinum would be significantly heavier though?

@LindsayInNYC: We have a similar timeline, i.e., we were engaged 10/2009 and married 11/2010. My e-ring has definitely yellowed on the bottom, but the top half of the ring looks okay. And there is totally a difference between the color of the bottom of my e-ring and my wedding band.

I am pretty sure platinum is heavier than white gold, but my bands are really thin so I don't think it would make a huge difference in the weight? *shrug*

I've re-set mine twice!!! I do miss the sentimentality of my original e-ring, BUT I was a crazy control freak back then (still am, ahem) and basically chose the setting myself. Of course Wagon Sr. liked it too but he had nothing to do with it. (He researched and chose the stone.)

When it was time to get wedding rings, nothing would fit flush against my e-ring because of the low basket setting, and I had to cut into my e-ring's setting to make the rings sit flush. I had a custom w-ring made to match (my e-ring had straight baguette sidestones, so my w-ring had 3 straight baguettes). When we got the rings back THEY DIDN'T SIT FLUSH. The jeweler explained that there was no way they could cut further into the e-ring without compromising the setting. So for a few years I wore the rings with a gap between them AND my e-ring having a huge dent cut into it (think halfway under the center stone). I was so unhappy.

Finally we went back to our jeweler (who is a really good family friend) and he set all 5 straight baguettes into one band, my w-ring, and he set my center stone into a solitaire. I was over the moon about my w-ring (it's seriously unique and beautiful) but I was never super thrilled about the simplicity of the solitaire next to the w-ring.

Last year, we saved and scrimped and created a budget for my re-set (birthday, mother's day, push present, 7th anniversary present, and christmas present!) and we finally re-set my e-ring into a 3 stone. I absolutely love it and I finally have my dream e-ring and w-ring!!!

@mrs. wagon: I have a high set diamond setting and it still doesn't sit flush, but I love the tiny gap it creates.

@cascademom: that's gorgeous!! yeah, with my new re-set we actually paid extra for a high basket setting to ensure that my w-ring sat flush. Basically our jeweler put a basket setting onto a regular ring instead of modifying an existing basket setting ring.

With my original set, my gap was about 4x the size of your gap. and the e-ring by itself looked ridiculous. Like someone took a bite out of the side!

@mrs. wagon: My husband hated the basket setting and chose my setting (by combining two). We got my wedding band at another jewelry store where I want to get my pave birthstone bands from.
