would you go to this party?

That's really crazy. I would never charge someone for a party! When we have get togethers we often say that we'll provide lots of heavy apps, dessert and soda/drinks, but if you want a specific beer or alcoholic drink, to bring it (because we don't drink much).

Yeah... nope. I agree with others that you should host the party you can afford. And if that means hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks, then so be it. Asking for a side dish is one thing, but charging is ridiculous.

I definitely wouldn't go...and I would tell DH not to go either! That's just wrong to charge people for a party you're hosting.

I would never! I had close friends who put out a donation box at their wedding, and I found that to be the height of classlessness. Charging a cover for a small party is even worse. You throw the party you can afford, period. If that's a potluck in your backyard or the local park, fantastic.

Nope...unless you're in college or attending a nice dinner at a nice venue, I think paying to get into a party is ridic.

I would only attend something like this if it was a special fundraiser for a good cause that my friend was supporting. Other than that, nope. I don't mind bringing a side dish, but providing drinks and money? I'll stay home then. And if this was a really good friend I would say, "What are you smoking?"

@littlek: yep! $10 to cover their costs!

The parents are hosting the party. I'm just baffled!
