I'm watching Portlandia and Carrie starts dating someone and realizes he has a lame tattoo that she just can't respect... she says it's kind of a deal breaker for her.
At first I laughed, but as the episode went on I could see what she meant more. I haven't finished the episode yet, but I have a new understanding of where she's coming from. I'd like to think it wouldn't bother me too much though, but that may be wishful thinking.
Would you have trouble dating someone with a lame tattoo?

Well DH's only tattoo is a kind of lame.. to me anyway. It's a dragon that has absolutely no meaning to him and something he just picked out at the shop last minute. It never made me second guess being with him, though, just that he was a typical 18 year old who wanted to be a "badass" and get a tattoo.

As long as it's not a face or neck tattoo. Maybe if I didn't have to see it all the time? I don't know, I could, I guess it depends on the tattoo. We all make dumb mistakes when we're young!

DH's friend has a scary clown tattoo on his arm. There is some sort of deep meaning behind it, but all I see is a scary face staring at me. It creeps me out every time I see it and would bother me if I dated a guy with a tattoo like that.

My post-college long term boyfriend had a super lame tattoo and I hated it! His ex-girlfriend, who was NOT a tattoo artist, had convinced him to let her tattoo his last name on to his upper thigh. She only got through half of his name for whatever reason so it looks incredibly stupid. I hated it....yet still managed to date him for three years, ugh!

It wouldn't bother me. I have a different outlook on tattoos than most people, so I wouldn't really care. :)it would probably make me like them more.

@mrbee: Do you watch the show, Tattoo nightmares? It's all about people with horrible tattoos coming in for coverups. Some of them are pretty bad.
As for dating someone with a lame tattoo, I guess it would depend where it was located. I got my tattoo at 21 and luckily, I don't regret it, but I'm sure if it was badly done that I might regret it.
There are definitely good and bad tattoo artists out there. I was lucky to have a good one for my tattoos. There's also some customers who want some bad tattoo ideas and that's why that show is popular. You should watch it.

My Husband has an awful tattoo on his calf and I STILL married him 
It's suppose to be a "bunny boiler" from Fatal Attraction, but to me it looks like his ex-wife with playboy bunny ears.. He knows I hate it.

My husband had a poorly done portrait of a big 10 point deer he killed. That was pretty lame. For his birthday I paid for someone to redo it. Now it's a very nicely done tattoo portrait of a 10 point deer he killed. Not my favorite of his tattoos but not a deal breaker either.

It depends what the tattoo is. DH's cousin just got a really ugly tattoo and it would be hard for me to accept it on a potential date. But lame doesn't always mean bad/ugly.
Neither one of us have tattoos...but we love the show ink master so we've become very picky people lol.

Depends on the tattoo. If it was just poorly done, no. But, honestly, some of the ones people have listed their DH's having would be dealbreakers for me! Like, sorry @Danizaur, but a guy with a tattoo of a dead deer on his body would never make it past a first date with me - I loathe hunting, despite coming from a family of hunters. But I think it would have to be something like that where I could tell from the tattoo that our personalities weren't going to mesh for it to be a dealbreaker for me.
And if it was something ex related that I had to look at all the time, they better be willing to get a coverup job or something! DH and I both like the idea of getting a tattoo, but haven't found an idea we're set on enough to commit to it.

My DH has a tramp stamp on his shoulder which he got when he was 18, it's so bad that you can actually feel it raised up on his skin! It's meant to say strength in chinese but I tease him saying it probably means beef in black bean sauce and he was duped.
He has a beautiful one on his arm in memory of his mum done by our friend who is a very good artist. I like it as a piece of art but I would prefer it if he just didn't have tattoos.

I think the clip is less about a bad tattoo than about bad judgment though. If someone had a really bad tattoo (and that tattoo was not tribal lame, it was REALLY bad) and was like "oh yea I know... So lame what was I thinking" I could definitely deal. But I couldn't date a person who didn't realize how lame that tattoo was bc they don't just have a bad tattoo, they have bad judgment too.

@wonderstruck: lol right. Like she asks him… oh did you get that in high school? I bet if he said yes she'd have had far less issue with it. Not so much that he HAS the tattoo, but that he's the kind of guy who thinks that's a cool tattoo. Not about a lame tattoo, about a lame guy

OH gosh this is a hard one for me, I think it would be a deal breaker, especially if the tattoo was offensive or just ridiculous (like a hulu girl or scary clown mentioned above!) I do have a "tramp stamp" yes 18th birthday mistake, so I guess I shouldn't be too judgy. I love a dude with tats if tastefully done & reasonable. I could not do a face/neck tattoo...that would FOR SURE be a deal breaker for me.
