Today at the library I was a bit of a mess & there were multiple instances I wanted to ask a nearby person to hold LO for a minute to help me get situated! Obviously that's not socially acceptable, right? Because they could take off running or take a bite out of them or something, who knows.

When I was flying solo with my baby, I totally let a random Swedish guy hold my baby while I was folding the stroller for gate check. He offered though because he could see I was struggling to keep lo in the baby carrier while bending over to get the car seat in the gate check bag.

I have. We were going through airport security, and we got separated from DH. I had to fold up the stroller to put it through the scanner, and it required two hands...so I gave LO to the woman behind me in line.
Creeped DH out a bit...but I only have 2 hands. -
I wouldn't ask, but if I was in a mess and someone offered I'd probably accept.

I haven't but I did have to ask a woman one time to dig in my diaper bag and get out a burp cloth since I had one arm holding her and the other holding the spit up.

A lady behind me in church offered once (I think she could tell my arms were tired). She was with her family, and used hand sanitizer on her hands so I let her! It was really sweet of her.

I asked a nice couple sitting by the lavatory to hold DD when I flew with her solo. I think she was 4 months old
Omg my kids have no stranger danger so they're always going up to random people and getting picked up/held.
DS cuddled with a random dad at a play gym the other day. They cuddled for at least 5 mins!

I never have, but I probably would if the situation required it. And although this sounds terrible to say, I'd be much more likely to let a woman hold her than a man.

I would! If I needed an extra pair of hands and them seemed trustworthy/had kids of their own with them.

I would but my worry would be they may not know how to handle a baby. On a flight sometime back one of the passengers wanted to play with my lo and I let him. It was fine.

I've done this multiple times, including today at the docs office! I try to wait and pick someone who has shown an interest but if I'm desperate I just ask an older lady. Today there was a mom of a seven year old who was smiling so much at us, and I asked if she'd mind and she was thrilled to hold him while I prepped his food. Win win!

I never asked them ne but at LO's 4 month check up she was getting pretty wiggly & grabby, it was January so I had to fill out paperwork for the the files for the new year & was having a lot of trouble so an older lady offered to hold her while I finished. I felt weird about it but she was in the chair directly next to me & it was so helpful.
ETA: I went shopping at a local boutique a few weeks ago & the older ladies who owned It held DD while I shopped...I didn't know them but they offered. It's a small country town & I grew up here so I try not to feel too weird about it. As long as I can see/hear what's going on.

Only if they looked willing. I asked the driver of the van shuttle to our hotel to hold my lo when I was trying to fold up our stroller which requires two hands. It was fine.

Barring an emergency, probably not. However, if I was striking up a nice conversation with someone in line, and I suddenly spilled something, I may take them up on the offer.

Too many episodes of SVU perhaps! It's always the "safe looking" people! And people are always saying " I never thought it would happen to ME!". Yes, I'm crazy and neurotic.

I would never ask but a couple times in a pinch when a trustworthy looking person offered, I've gratefully accepted.
Oh yeah, and the friendly toddler has ended up sitting with nice looking older couples a few times at Denny's while we packed up. And she has wandered off with the waitresses a few times.

Same as @Meganmp. It was the guy next to me and he offered while I was trying to get the bottle LO threw under the seat.

One of the flight attendants on our last flight offered to hold her for a minute and I said ok! But I probably wouldn't in most cases since I'd be afraid of them running off with her or (more likely) my LO starting to bawl.

I went to the dentist when LO was 4 weeks. I planned to just have her chill on the floor while I had my cleaning, but the dentist asked if I'd like the admin assistant to hold her, and I said sure. She is a grandma of 12+, and LO slept the whole time and I was able to get through the appointment faster. I never thought I'd be ok with that, but it turned out ok. I'm sure the OB nurses will steal her at my 6wk pp checkup on Friday, too.

Yes probably an older person, someone I could take down if they started running. Haha.

I would just set her down at this age or ask if someone could close or grab was I was needing. I really don't believe in putting my kid on others.

We were at a restaurant and LO had a really bad day and was fussing a lot. Then our food came and I tried to eat with LO in my lap. Then this lovely older lady came up to us and asked whether it'd be ok if she held LO while I ate my dinner. I accepted and she shushed LO and bounced him on her hip till I was done. That was so nice of her!

Am I the only one that thinks it's weird people will offer to take the kid. When I flew solo with M people offered to help with my stroller, luggage, etc and those if I needed it I was was glad to accept help. Touch my child. No No way. I would never offer to take someone else's child either!

I would if I needed a hand. I'm pretty trusting of people (to a certain point) and don't want to raise my daughter in a fear culture so am willing to take reasonable "risks".

I've let a flight attendant hold her, but only because it was obvious she was dying to do so and my daughter was old enough to indicated that she was cool being with her while I got things situated Like @locavore_mama said, usually people just offer to help me with whatever else I'm juggling. My husband always seems to get asked to hold babies on planes though! He'll do it, but feels really weird about it.

I haven't asked but if I needed it I wouldn't be afraid to ask. I've had restaurant managers come by and ask if they can hold my baby so DH and I could eat easier and I've said yes. He's gone on a couple tours of restaurant kitchens and stuff.

I think I would in my small town or after having gone through airport security. For stranger danger purposes with kids we always teach them to go to a mom with kids and that would also be my first choice if I needed help for a minute.

@Cole: +1. It would depend on where I was, and who the person was. I don't have a whole lot of stranger danger - I'm sure it stems from spending most of my life in a small town.

I have - once with a total stranger and a few times with women I barely knew who were part of the same new moms support group. All of the times were so I could use the bathroom.
