@Silva: If I had a best friend who used to be a home birth midwife I'd totally have her labor with me at home and let her give me a cervical check...

@IRunForFun: she labored at home with me for my first! I think she did on check...but I don't really remember. It just doesn't weird me out....it's obviously not sexual!

@Silva: Agree - definitely not sexual. The only concern I see is what someone above mentioned - that if something medically went wrong, even if it wasn't the fault of the person delivering, would the relationship be strained? That's always a risk when blurring the patient/friend line.

@yellowbeach: I totally agree, my husband is a pediatrician and we have had that talk a lot! One of my friends best strengths when she was practicing midwifery was knowing her limits, and I think when she was helping me labor at home she was even more cautious (especially knowing I didn't want a home birth). But you are right, that's a really Important consideration.
