My MIL mocked me today about not letting the LO touch BIRD POOP!! Am I abnormal or would you really let your LO touch poop? I guess her general point was that she thinks I keep the LO too clean and used that as an example, which I think was the worst example ever. I just told her that I disagreed and moved on!

OMG GROSS!!! It's one thing to get a few germs here and there but bird poop has all sorts of god knows what in it.
My mom contracted a really nasty illness from bird poop. She had to have a major surgery and was out of work for four months. The docs thought she got it from working in her flower beds underneath a bird feeder.

I HATE bird poo! Last summer when I was freakin' pregnant (like, 36 weeks?) I was downtown and an ugly stupid bird shat on my head! It dripped down my shoulder and again on my leg. I HATE bird poop! Anyway, to answer you question, no, I will NEVER let LO touch bird poop! LOL.

Say what? No, I wouldn't let my LO intentionally touch any kind of feces. All for letting them get dirty, so long as they are cleaned as soon as they come in... But they need to know that you don't touch any form of poop, and they need to know that bird poop is in that category.

I would let her touch it. If she happened to touch if while playing I probably wouldn't have a cow and would just wash her hands.

@chopsuey119: we were at legoland and there was this railing that was just COMPLETELY COVERED in bird poop so i told the LO not to touch the railing. but apparently, my MIL thought i was being over-protective.

Yuck. If you were over protective you wouldn't have let her in that playground today, or lego land at all because there are so many germs in those places.
Funny non related bird poop story. When I was on an Israel trip it was a girl's birthday so we had cake for her. We were outside singing happy birthday and passing out cake, and a bird poo'd on a guy's face. The birthday girl thought it was icing and licked it off, before he could say anything.

OH MY GOD. That's disgusting!!!!! I had to fish geese poop out of my dog's mouth once and I almost hurled. Bird poop is definitely not something anyone should touch. Gross. Yuck. Ack.

Bird poop really is disgusting. IF my daughter touched it, I would just make sure we washed her hands but yeah, if I saw something covered in it, I would make sure she didn't touch it, too!

@Rubies: OMG that sounds AWFUL!! That happened to me once, in high school. I was walking to the train to go to work and a bird pooped on my head too. These college girls laughed at me. It was horrible!

Bird poop is gross and nasty. NO way would I let my son touch bird poop. Your MIL probably was trying to use it as some sort of example but that was a bad example to use! Birds have so many diseases!
