Now that Charlie watches YouTube, I've suddenly started caring about commercials. Charlie doesn't watch any TV at all, so YouTube is his only source of commercials.
It got me thinking that I'd pay a few bucks a month for a commercial free YouTube, so I could spare my kids the advertising messages.
Do you ever worry about exposing your kids to ads? Would you pay money for an ad-free YouTube or TV set?

We don't have "tv" but instead have Netflix.. so yes, we pay for ad free television watching.
It's just gotten so bad... even the channels & shows that DS CAN watch have terrible commercials. =/

did they just start that? i noticed that when i was playing my favorites, there would be ads. never noticed that before! i'll probably respond differently if and when my kids get into youtube, but as of right now, nope! wouldn't pay for it.

I'm not so worried about the ads, they tend to be pretty tame.
Our kids will watch mostly things on DVD as we don't have cable, which is much easier to control.
Plus, I plan on limiting TV so they have to do more "kid"activities, like play outside with their friends (when they're older), and use their imaginations.

I can't say what I would do - right now we just have cable. Lol. But my parents have DVR so you can pause and then fast-forward the TV. That's what my sister does. She'll pause it or record the show and then skip the commercials.
As far as YouTube specifically, no I like my free stuff and don't want to add another bill to the list really. Mainly out of laziness. Can't say how kids will affect that though.

We have a DVR so we usually just fast forward.
I don't think I'd be too worried about my LO seeing commercials though. I saw them, and if I wanted something I probably just asked my mom and there's a good chance she told me no. Just like if I saw it in the store.

We only have Netflix, so I never really thought about it before. We are too cheap (and really dont care about it) to spend money on TV in the first place, so I don't think I would spend any extra to have it commercial free.Unless it was really cheap.

I don't think seeing 'some' commercials is necessarily bad. It can teach kids their are things they may want but that doesn't mean they are going to get it.
Could you just turn the sound off until the commercial is over?

Not sure I would. I like commercials. And I'm not sure it really affected me as a child. I would say the toy r us and sears catalogue was it for us. (meaning wanting everything. )
