I have a lot of friends who don't want to do any party planning themselves. They'd rather just pay someone so they don't have to think about it.
I LOVE party planning and do pretty much everything myself. I make all of the decorations, invitations, favors, food, etc. I save so much money this way, plus I love to do it.

@artbee: I LOVE party planning too! I like seeing the end result and being able to say we did that. And not just I paid someone to do it. And I'm too cheap to pay someone!

It totally depends on what it is. A party, hell yeah, I'll do that myself. Other projects...it depends.
We were recently talking about making a headboard, but after looking at the cost of materials, time it would take, frustrations that would for sure come out of it, it's just not worth it to me to save an extra couple bucks!

Both! I love love love party planning, too, but I know that some things are just beyond my DIY skills so I do a mix of making a lot of items and purchasing.

I don't love party planning but I would prefer to do it than to pay someone to do it. It is so expensive to pay someone else to do it!!

I loooove DIY projects!! I would much rather do stuff myself instead of pay! Except for my situation right now! I'm in my friends wedding this Friday, and I have yet to hem my dress! oops! So I'm calling around different tailors today to see if anyone can do it for me!

I love it! I do a mix of things... If something would cost me too much or frustrate me too much to do, I outsource it. For example, when I've thrown baby showers I *never* make the cake. I DIY the rest.

I'd love to but working 40+ hours, my week is limited as it is. I'd rather pay someone to do it/clean it up.

Party planning is stressful, but I love planning the details and making decorations. I don't enjoy cooking for so many people so I would rather buy.

My answer to pretty much everything is that I would rather DIY.
I LOVE party planning. I have so much fun doing it! I love doing all the fiddly bits.

meh....I like to plan it and then pay people to execute my ideas I guess.
Meaning: i'll tell the cake lady who I want the cake. But, I wouldn't bake it!
I'll probably order pre-made party favors?
I'll probably buy bottled drinks...
I would more than likely cater the food, if we did a dinner. I'd buy party trays if we just did finger foods.
So, I would plan it but I wouldn't do much beside order, pick-up, and pay.
I would be the decor but I'd try to buy things pre-made. I can't ever in a million years see myself trying to make decor.
