Absolutely hands down gift cards for me. The more generic the place, the better. I'd be thrilled if I got a ton of Target gift cards at my shower. There's so much, as first time parents, that we just don't know that we need and there's so much that's not cute or fun that we need!

At the time of my shower, gifts were good, cause I needed stuff...clothes, blankets and all.
NOW, since baby is almost here, and I pretty much have everything bought for her, I'd prefer a gift card, so that I can get diapers or even groceries.

Depends on what I'm wanting....I like opening an actual gift, but sometimes I don't want someone else to buy the items, and then I'd prefer a gift card.
For example, at Christmas, I really wanted some maternity clothes, so I wouldn't have to buy them myself. Of course, I don't want people buying me stuff that I haven't tried on, so my mom and husband gave me lots of gift cards--yay!

Both are good for me. At my shower I needed actual things, and people going out and buying them for me saved me time and energy.

I love getting gift cards. I haven't had a little one yet but for or wedding we were living half way across the country from family and friends so trying to get wedding and shower gifts home was really hard. When we have a baby it will be similar but the other issue (not really a bad one) is that I have been given baby gear and clothes from the families I have worked for so I will need very little, gift cards would be more helpful in filling those odd gaps that I have.

Gift card! People are convinced they know what we need and I'm soooo over the random gifts that didn't come from the registry.

I voted gift card, only because there is no risk of getting items you didn't want/need. However, it's great when someone gets you that perfect gift!

I say gift cards so you don't feel bad if someone gave you something that's not "right" for you and you're debating between exchanging it and trying not to hurt someone's feelings vs keeping it, but then never using it.
However, sometimes, some people rock at giving presents and always give the "perfect" gift!
