I'd love to drop the kids off at Grandma and Grandpa's for a few weeks over the summers... it'd be so wonderful to be kid-free for a while! But then I'd miss them, and would probably go visit just to get some snuggies. I don't know how long I could ship them off!

I'd probably let her spend a week at their house when she's a little older...4 or 5 maybe? When I was in elementary school we did that and it was so much fun.

No. Because I don't trust my IL's, and if we ever left them with my parents, then the inlaws would want to do it too.
I might leave kids with my parents for a week or two when they get older (like 10+), but I don't think I'll ever leave them with my inlaws.

We've been talking about doing this when they're older. My parents are retired and live on a lake and the kids would have such a fun time. And DH and I could go on vacation. We talked about doing it for a few weeks, maybe a month when they are 8, 9, maybe.

My sister and I used to spend a week or two out of the summer at my grandparents! We loved it. I would definitely consider doing this when kids are school aged.

Our situation wouldn't really work for going to grandparents but I am absolutely sending my kids to summer camp. It was the best experience of my life and my parents had 8 weeks all to themselves!
I learned to be independent and had so much fun. Plus my mom sent care packages and wrote a couple of times a week.

I would with my parents or my MIL (if they were willing) for a week or two when they are school age. Probably for a long weekend (like 4 days or so) from preschool age up. It would depend on a lot of things at the time time though-- how much the grandparents wanted them, the current situation in the house (room for them, their crazy dog, etc). But in theory, yes, we are actually planning on it so we can do some big trips that we wouldn't necessary want kids along for.

I spent time in the summers with my own grandparents and it was the best! I would absolutely do this once they are old enough -- with my mom and her husband, but not with my Dad and his wife (We don't agree with some of their values and so I wouldn't be as comfortable with it). However, all our parents live in the same city as us, so we probably wouldn't need to anyway!

Absolutely! Some of my fondest memories growing up are the weeks spent at my grandparents with all my cousins during the summer. Looking back, I don't know how they did it 7-9 grandkids all at once for two weeks straight!
What I would give to be able to go back in time just once...

I don't have kids yet, but I totally would. My parents used to send my sister and I to CA with our grandparents for the summer. My brother wouldn't go because he was a teenager LOL. But I think we were probably gone about a month to two months. Seemed like forever at the time so I can't really remember now but I'd guess probably about 6 weeks or so.
We had a blast! Of course I'd get home sick but we really did have fun and I'm glad to have those memories with my Grandparents, especially now that I don't get to see them very often at all.
And I'm sure my parents welcomed the break

My mom is really keen on this idea and wants to get LO for a week when she's 4 or 5; which I'm ok with. My parents only live 45 minutes away; so we could't easily go get LO if necessary.
Right now, my MIL lives 3k miles away and I would be comfortable sending LO out to camp grandma for 1 week starting around age 6-7.
My husband and I are already planning trips to take while LO is away!!

I would totally do this for a couple of weeks, but not until they are a older, maybe starting around 8-10. I *think* I could leave my littler ones with grandparents for maybe a week, but no longer. We'll see when they actually arrive how I feel!

Sure, when they're retired. For a week at a time, probably. I'd miss her like crazy, but it'd be fun to have an entire week. I'm looking forward to overnights when she's sleeping all night and ready for it.

I think I would. Both families live far away from us so I'm sure they'd love to get some quality time in with the kiddos! It'd also give me and the hubby some alone time to do whatever we'd like. I'm sure I'll miss them, but I want the grandparents to bond with their grandkids.

I totally would! DH and I have been talking about shipping the kids off to Asia for some cultural immersion (and a break!).. I would say maybe 1 month, and then we would plan a visit to pick them up.

My mom is already fantasizing about this and LO is barely 4 mo! When she's older and if she wants to, sure why not, but we'll most likely all travel as a family and she stays with gmom while DH and I go on a short vacay.

I definitely would leave my future LO with my dad and his girlfriend. His gf has a ton of family in the area and I think it'd be great to have grandparent bonding time/kid-free time! As for my ILs, no, my children will never be staying there. They smoke in their house. My mom will probably never want my LO there, so off to grandpa's it will probably be, and no idea how long I'd be able to stand it; I'll just have to see

once we have kids, i'd probably leave them with my parents. my dad has summers off & is awesome with kids, so i'm sure he'd be happy to help. i'd never leave our future LOs with my ILs for more than an hour or two.

I don't think we would ever do this... Neither my husband nor I spent long periods of time with relatives without our parents, so it's kind of a foreign concept to us. I know our moms would love to have the kids for a week or two (my mom mentions it all the time), but I'm not comfortable with that. I guess if they ask to go as teenagers, we might let them, but it'd have to be initiated from the kids, not me/DH or the grandparents.

I always spent a week with my grandparents every summer, starting around age 4. I think I would do that as well, but LO is still so small it's hard to fathom. Right now I'm thinking one day might be nice to have off.

My parents and inlaws both live here so that doesn't make much sense for us. But we are planning on letting LO have sleepovers there, just not for weeks at a time. I'm sure DH and I would like to have weekend trips away without them though when they're older......

Hell yeah! Especially if he's a super-happy teenager like I was My folks would send me off to Cape Cod with my great-aunt when I was small. They now own that house, perfect for shipping my kid off to the same place!

Probably, because 1. my parents are talking about retiring to the shore and 2. my in-laws already have a shore house. I would gladly drop them off for the summer and drive to the shore for weekends!

I would, for maybe 7-10 days. I used to spend a week with my paternal grandparents when I was young and it was really fun! My grandma taught me to sew, we cooked, we worked in their garden...good memories.

my parents used to send my brother and i to korea every other summer, we loved it!
