@LuLu Mom: mmmm I am sad Charlie Hunham isn't the lead too. That I would go see for the view.

@LuLu Mom: @Mrs. Confetti: Did you see the interview Charlie Hunam did where he talked about cuddling his cat and how he loved the way he smelled?? I think I like him more now.

No desire to read the books or see the movie. I like romance novels, heck my Mom writes them, but everyone I know said the books were awful writing.
nectarine / 2690 posts
I'll see the movie (dh will probably not watch it) but I'll wait until its on dvd. We just don't go to the movies, ever. lol

@Smurfette: Awful, awful writing. Awful.
That being said.... haha. No I definitely will not pay money to see the movie, but I'll probably stream it at some point because I'm curious and sometimes I'm in the mood for crappy entertainment.

@Smurfette: the writing....or even just the editing was so bad. I'm not saying I'm a literary snob, I'm not I read the YA books like crazy, however these books had such ridiculous errors that I couldn't stand it. Words that you can tell were autocorrected/spellchecked in correctly, misuse of words, and sooo dang repetitive, I couldn't' stand it. I lasted until book 2 and couldn't even think of doing book 3.

@LuLu Mom: Yeah, that's what I didn't get. Was there NO editor? It was just soooo bad, and really obvious things too!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
I generally get turned off when things get super popular, so I never read the books. I also usually don't like the movie adaptations of books, things never look like what I pictured them in my mind.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
I wouldn't go see it in the theater, mainly because we never go to the movies, but I'm sure we'll watch it On Demand or on Netflix. I read the book and I mean, it was terrible but I still finished it lol. I'm sure it won't be the best movie ever but the commercials actually make it look better than I thought itwould be. At best, it's pretty good and at worst, we have a laugh. I wouldn't feel uncomfortable watching it with DH and he's interested in seeing what all the hype is about.

@LuLu Mom: @JerricaBenton: oh, yeah, I'm in no way saying that this was an amazing book. Nope, no way. But surprisingly it kept my attention. In a guilty pleasure kind of way. Oh, I hated the reference to the goddess part.

This is a pretty positive review and I tend to agree with this author...
@bluestripedbee: yeah, I've read bad books and ive read boring books i couldnt finish. This was bad but I wasn't bored, haha.
pomelo / 5469 posts
I've read all of the books, so I would quite like to see the movie...but I'll probably wait until it's on DVD. I'd feel too embarrassed to watch it with anyone else!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
We went to see it today. I wasn't planning on seeing it in theaters but we were able to go on a midday date where the crowds would be low. I've read the books and the movie was okay. I expected it to be bad but it wasn't as bad as I thought. There were some enjoyable moments.

@LuLu Mom: my MIL is obsessed with the series, which surprised me since she's super Christian and always throwing a bible verse at people .I'm christian too, just she's such a hypocrite. I read the first book, and the writing and editing were awful! If it comes to HBO I'll watch it, but we are going to see Kingsmen instead!

My husband and I love to watch bad movies and make dumb jokes throughout, so I would love to watch this movie at home in a few months! It looks hilarious (meaning, so bad it's good). Didn't read the book but loved reading excerpts online of the terrible, terrible writing.

I went and saw the movie with a girlfriend and my sister mid-day today. I hadn't read the books but intend to. I thought the movie was pretty good and didn't invite my husband because a) he's working and b) most of it is about a love story - he hates those kinds of movies. He'd rather we saw a comedy together.
apricot / 309 posts
We'll probably go see it together (just not this weekend- too crowded). We like going to the movies, and know we won't have time once there's a baby. If it sucks, oh well.
I read all 3 books. The writing is terrible, but the plot was entertaining enough, which was all I expected. If you read 50 Shades of Grey expecting a literary masterpiece then it's your own fault when you're disappointed. My husband couldn't get through the first chapter because the writing bothered him so much, but he has no problem with going to the movie.

@MrsBananaGrabber: I totally agree there won't be many movies once baby gets here! But, there are plenty of literary masterpieces that are erotic fiction. Lady Chatterley's Lover
comes to mind! Even though we probably won't get another great masterpiece anytime soon, writers can still properly use spellcheck and an editor lol.

@dc yoga bee: I agree, there is plenty of well-written erotica. Story of O is much better written than the 50 Shades book, and along the same general lines. I just meant that in all the fuss I heard about the book before reading it, praise of the writing style didn't come up, and if I had expected decent writing for whatever reason the first few pages would have quickly changed that

I'd like to rent it when it comes out On Demand and hopefully I will get DH to watch it with me. I think I'd feel awkward in a theater.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
Side note: Has anyone heard the ads for the "50 Shades of Grey teddy bear" from the Vermont Teddy Bear company that comes "complete with accessories"? I keep hearing ads for it on NPR and scratching my head about it!

Funny story... my husband is a 8th grade teacher and one of his smart-aleck students asked if he would take me to see the movie for Valentine's Day. My husband looked him dead in the eye and said, "You know that's basically pornography, right? So, no." .... Kid turned bright red and was basically shell-shocked into silence. Very rare for 8th graders!

@Maysprout: That is awesome!
We don't get out to the movies much. I'd watch the movie if it was on Netflix Instant but I wouldn't pay for it. I actually think it will probably be better than the book because the excerpts I've read from the book had horrendous writing.
grapefruit / 4997 posts
My bestie is so into this series and lent me the books but I just did get the hype. I only read the first book and thought the writing was not that great. She did say the other books get better than the first and has a good ending.
watermelon / 14467 posts
Nope. I did not read the books and have no interest in seeing the movie. My husband said he might watch it when it comes to onDemand.
nectarine / 2148 posts
@coopsmama: I agree with you as well. Man with unresolved personal issues turns to beating women, but will do it in a 'sexual' way so it is ok? Ummm no thanks.
I think it's only gotten this much attention so far since it was conceived from twilight fan fiction and people get involved in trendy things for the sake of it being trendy.
pomegranate / 3411 posts
I was practically begging DH to see it with me for Valentine's day but he refused because he said it would be too boring for him. I might go watch it by myself though I'd prefer to go with a friend. I'm just pretty certain I have no friends who want to see it
I read the books after I heard it was twilight fan fiction so I was curious and got hooked.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@californiadreams: DH saw it with me yesterday and he said it kept his attention more than the movie 'Safe Haven'. I was surprised he said that. I kept looking over to see if he was asleep. Haha.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@swurlygurl: I thought it was good and something I might buy. If I don't buy it, I would see it again when it comes out on DVD.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
I'll wait for the movie to come on Amazon or Netflix to see it. The soft porn/ steamy sex scenes reminds me of Magic Mike and my husband had ZERO interest in watching that with me. He'll probably treat 50 Shades of Grey the same way. I didn't read any of the books, but all the reviews keep talking about its much better than the book and is actually an enjoyable film. Too bad SOA's Jax dropped out.
